Orion is looking a fair size, I'm guessing that what it is, just behind St. Martins, I think it's fair to say Stephenson's Tower is a bit rubbish, init?

Oh no I like Stephenson Tower. I like the contrast between the 1960'sness of said tower and the newness of HCT. I hope that when all the 60's tower blocks are gone, Stephenson Tower will still be there in amongst all the 100+ storey skyscrapers as a reminder of how life once was.

Does anyone know what types of people live in there? Is it for city workers and the like or is it skanky council housing?? I've never been that close to it to inspect.

It is a rough-arse place Butterfield. I daresay there are a few nice souls trapped in the damp, decaying and fume-ridden place, and I believe a few old people too, but it is a dump of the highest order.

And it is going when New St is re-done.

I am happy to leave the Sentinels as the only highrise example of this type of architecture in the city centre

Oh ok.

I'm planning on creating a major protest to stop the demolition of Stephenson Tower. Anyone care to join?

..............Okay, so it's just me then.

Stephenson Tower is reminiscent of the usual concrete suburban tower blocks so it's strange that in the 1960's they put one in the city centre. The Sentinels on the other hand look different and are one of a kind (even though there's two of them) so deserve to be in the city centre. I'll still miss Stephenson Tower when it's gone.

Just a little mock up to show what we might be seeing in 5 years or more...

I have gone as far as including Paradise x2, but getting rid of Rough Diamond and Tate.

With thanks to whoever took the pic
