Brilliant news there. I am now eagerly waiting for summer to reveal renders

Should stretch the cluster out further more towards the south

Interesting news...I sincerely look forward to seeing the renders of this one, and the fact that the current ugly building will be going is another plus

There was a thread back in 2004 about this new tower. Rafael Vinoly has been trying to gather support for a conspicuous new tower on Fenchurch Street for Land Securities (dkw is supposed to leave in 2006). As far as I remember the tower was said to have a bold, sculptural silhouette, and a large public space on its top floor.

Here is the proposal of Raphal Vinoly and his team "THINK" for replacing the wtc:

I completely agree, a Massive comedy phone is not what this site needs. I hope this project encourages taller projects slightly closer to the thames, but hopefully this building isnt so close that it overshadows it.

yes I'd have to agree with Will. The current proposals are simple, yet grand, each with their own unique feature. If it was like that, it would probably look better flipped the other way, to sort of close the city cluster.

Bit of a pity IMO, there's nothing wrong with 20 Fenchurch St apart from the ugly podium, the tower itself is quite attractive, I forget who it was who posted in another thread how contemporary it looks for a building of its age. One of the better pieces of 60s architecture IMO. I would much prefer to see the building on the corner of Cullum Street and Fenchurch Street, opposite Plantation Place, bite the dust. I can't find a picture but it's a truely minging building that will look even more incongrous in the Lime Street area when the Willis building is complete.

I hope it doesn't turn out too wacky making our city a laughing stock. But I will reserve judgement untill I see the render.

I like how in this render the skyline looks like a big long continuous skyline from the north to the south

exciting times

plus there will be the beetham tower and the wilkinson eyre tower in this view too

VERY exciting stuff

They're just toying with us by holding off with the renderings for a while!

The developers said they wouldn't send me a rendering until they submit it for planning permission this summer.

Which sounds like the Beetham plan, and we know how that turned out.

You've got to feel sorry for churchill securities who proposed & got apporved the wilkinson Eyre tower for the site which in the rendering above would be next to 51LS & this new tower. Poor buggers they had planning approval & the foresight to build a tower in the city in a prime plot- shame they didnt actually own the site as now we would've had a tower that would've filled the gap

That's a shame 168 Fenchurch Street was a nice design, and at 168m would have filled in that gap perfectly

I remember people saying this tower was going to be replaced soonish. OMG I can't wait to see some renderings. I agree that it shouln't be anything too wacky. We can only hope. It really does strech out the cluster and I can't even begin to think how the skyline as a whole will turn out in 20 years
