I don't get the purpose of redeveloping that strip of shops, unless they're going taller, but I can't see that getting approval in Sutton Coldfield. I mean I'd love a London-style row of four storey townhouses with shops below, I just can't see it happening here.

If anything they've just killed off the Southern half of the town centre now, as the only reasons to cross the Ring Road have now been removed. Can't see Games Workshop moving into the Gracechurch, they might be doing well these days but they still don't invest that much in their property, going for the outskirts.

I imagine a three storey apartment block with retail on the ground floor. Possibly 3.5 storey with apartments in the roof space might also be an option. In reality, they could probably get away with 4 storey.

Hi a family member of mine worked in one of the properties which has had to close. The land was owned by Cambridge university college and all the shops had a tenancy agreement which was due to expire in 2021. Cambridge university college sold the lease off at auction this year to a property developer from London. There are rumours that all the shop's from the nail shop down to where Morrisons use to be will be knocked down and redeveloped. Without saying too much more there has been a big legal battle between the business owners who rent these shops the landlord and the lease holder and some have chosen to move on and some have remained until they can find new premise. We have heard the shops will be rebuilt with flats above them.

Apparently all the shops have eviction notices in the windows. I saw the Warhammer shop being emptied last week.
Update:

Apparently the new landlord claimed that the properties had become dilapidated due to the tenants not complying with repairing obligations under their leases, hence the eviction notices on some of the shops. Tenants will either move out or complete repairs at their own expense. So talk of demolition is just a rumour.

The problems - the scheme is incoherent because not all buses will use the bus station and the continuing problem of buses on The Parade - are ignored.
If, as reported HS2 is delayed, will the bus station go ahead?

Mind you, the app says four storey new build whilst the render shows a three storey new build.

Edit : Checking the planning app, the rear elevation shows that there are actually four floors in the new development.

Edit 2 : Another front render, viewed as if directly facing the building, also shows that there will be four floors.

Is the surname Turner prevalent in Sutton Coldfield ? My Turners trace to the town as early as the 1400’s.

Hi Dale. I would say the name Turner is prevalent in the UK as a whole so it probably is prevalent in Sutton as well.

Not yet. I'm waiting for the main planning app to be submitted.

I was told, at one of the consultations earlier in the year, that it was likely the numbers were going to be reduced to around 5,200 but the chap did say that the numbers could always go back up again depending on the demand over the years.

A huge B&M store is to open in what were the Hughes and Halfords stores according to the Sutton Observer.

£0.5m to be spent on Vesey Gardens:

See also item 21:

A waste of money in my view.
