An article in the Post would suggest this is already pretty far down the line I'd say. Out of interest, did the likes of Woody know about this beforehand, or is it a surprise to everyone?

its a supprise that they are talking about this being that tall... all i knew was the the approved application for a 10 storey tower on site was to be used as a fall back plan but i didnt know the primary plan would have been this... esp with BST directly axcross the road!

they seem keen to get things moving and moving fast. i look forward to seeing the final proposal!

Googled Regal Property Group to not much avail, but there are suggestions of a tie-in with Corus Hotels.

There's a great middle-page spread on Broad St developments on the middle pages.

It seems to indicate that Cumberland House is now offices, flats and retail (it was office and retail and I suspect it still is). It mentions the Regal scheme, hints at a major mixed-use at Five Ways Shopping Centre including refurb of the tower, rumours of TWO major banks at Arena Central meaning that that part of Brum will become a major European banking district. Also mentions the library and Baskerville Wharf.

Oh, and Stoodi Bakers is becoming Mischka's

It's funny how (naturally) we christen towers. It feels strange when they're all grown up calling themselves by a different name.Cheeky sods !

Corus aren't linked with this Regal - they just used to have a brand called Regal from what I see. Plus there's another Asian brand called Regal Hotels. So I hope they give it a name soon to avoid confusion.

Only thing I could find was that this Regal is based in Knowle.

Ah - thanks for the clarification

I would be interested to see how they incorporate Leftbank.

so do we actually know who this regal group is. the paper refers to 'managing direct of the UK branch of regal' so it would suggest they are a europe/world wide operation but i have never heard of them before!!!!

Good news! The article seems hopeful when it says that it could be built within the next four years - to do that, they'd have to be moving at the same pace as the Snow Hill Towers did. So with VTP200 at one end, and this at the other, we could have our two bookends!

Ahhhhhhh, very exciting news, did not see this coming at all. I was just expecting to come back from school. Come onto the forum and discuss the approved or under construction towers. Then out of no where this appeared, great stuff.

Interestingly, a planning app to convert the first floor of the bank to a restaurant has gone in.

Will obviously be short term

The location of this tower for me signals the birth of an American style downtown. Retail, Hotels, Offices, Apartments, Arena's you name it this area will have it. New Cumberland House, BST, Regal, 11 Brindley, Arena Central, V, Auchinleck, Edgbaston Galleries. All exciting developments.

Awesome news!!!

Confidence breeds confidence and now Broad Street is going to be THE place to be in about 5 years time when there will be towers either side of the Street - may as well rename it Tower Boulevard!
