They will be the freeholder. When you buy a flat you are a leaseholder.

Usually the leaseholder gets landed with a service charge which covers maintainace etc.

£1000+ is not uncommon

Sliding things back towards Regal - their website seems very fresh, very lacking in detail. I presume they are a fairly new outfit?

News: Regal takes a Big Bite out of Entertainment Capital

Birmingham: Midlands based construction company Regal Property Group has announced ambitious plans to deliver a £150-million luxury hotel in the heart of Birmingham’s entertainment capital, Broad Street. The stunning development will include a luxury hotel, sky restaurant, conference facilities and an iconic tower that could become the city's tallest building.

The developer currently has planning permission to build 130 apartments and a restaurant on the Broad Street site, currently home to a Grade II Listed building known as The Big Bite and the demolished progressive synagogue. But Regal now aspires to turn the scheme into a landmark development.

It is hoped that the hotel will help to ease demand for high quality accommodation in the city and also help attract the Chinese Olympic athletes for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Although revised plans have not been submitted to the council, the Regal Property development is expected to pass Birmingham’s tallest populated tower, the 130 meter 10 Holloway Circus, the proposed 135 meter Broad Tower, the 137 meter Snowhill Residential Tower and the 150 meter The V Building.

The Grade II Listed Big Bite will be incorporated into the construction, which if all goes to plan, could be completed in 2011.

Nothing we didn't know already but it is always good to hear something still being reported! Where did you get that from, by the way?

Good to hear news on this; especially supporting the 'next tallest' rumours. Today has just been one good bit of news after another. Cheers for posting that up m_c_hotmail.

The possibility it could be taller than the V Building is not to be sniffed at though

If they want it to be completed by 2011 they had better start tomorrow.

Fortunately, there's only a small building to clear away from this site, unlike the NatWest Tower site, which will be interesting as Colmore Row is quite narrow.

However, that small building happens to be Grade II listed. Which makes me think - it could make an impressive and grand hotel entrance!

Can we have a source please.

Sounds a bit too much like a skyscrapercity article at moment for my liking.

They are keeping the building that is there. It will still take 3 months to get planning
