Sounds a bit too much like a skyscrapercity article at moment for my liking.
Just googled the headline, came back with this link on emporis:

http://www.emporis.com/en/bu/nc/ne/?id=101975

Dated January 2008.

Sort of given a 'taster', but would be better if we had pictures to substantiate it. Great to read it on Emporis though!

It reads kind of official on Emporis, & to put a £150 million price tag on it seems to indicate that it seems to be genuine. Isn't that what Beetham Manchester cost to build, btw?

I could write something fictitious and it would appear on Emporis

Wouldn't Emporis lose it's credibility if it was full of duff information? Surely they must check for authenticity? ............... or have you finally 'lost it' Bio & done the deed????

It does sound like a rerun of what was announced back in October. The think against this is that Regal Property Grouup seems pretty small, they are based on the Warwick Road in Solihull.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic but I didn't know Emporis had any.

Old news i think. If they want it to be larger than all the other proposed then it will be a biggie!

Got to agree with everyone here this is simply a re run of the newspaper article last year. Why would they still be going on about attracting the Chinese olympic team, it would be a miraculous build even if they started it now for 2012. I really do want this to come to fruition, together with BST it will create a real identity to this part of Broad Street and a great entrance to Brindleyplace, but I think we should be hearing about a planning application to start getting excited!

Well Regal are buying council-owned land on the site, if that means anything. This is an item for the Property Committee agenda, that keeps getting pushed back:

Quote:
To approve the variations to the existing agreement between the Council and Regal with the additional payment subject to planning consent of £750,000
Additional payment quite sounds like a bribe, though presumably they mean S106? Either way, sounds like they do have actual plans for the site, and also sounds possible (at least) that the council are aware of plans.

Let's hope this thing looks better than the pedestrian, bland and outdated looking Broad Street Tower. That thing is shameful Birmingham deserves something better that just an 'any old tower'.

The council have known about it for a while. Its been on the property report sheets for the last 12 months, I just dont think this news is anything new at the moment although they must be preparing for an outline planning submition soon.
