Maybe because Med Spain is also hotter so the rain evaporates rather than soaking into the land

Anyway here is today's photo, Beetham Tower, Manchester, recently completed building which at 169m is currently the UK's tallest outside London.

The air itself in Italy is weter, that could be the explanation. I have been only in Spain, but someone told me that in Italy the air is more wet (so there is also more difficult to stand heat than in Spain).

It depends on the zone you stayed in Spain. Some parts of Almería,Murcia or Aragón, receives 200 or less mm of rain per year. Some parts of the Cantabric sea or Pyrinees received more than 1500mm, so the clima is not homogenic in Spain, neither in Italy nor UK.

Manchester's tower pic is impressive. Old and new contrast

Yep, it feels hotter when it's 32°C in Rome than 37°C in Madrid.

Manchester is almost a different city compared to some years ago. I visited it first in the 80s and since then it has made impressive improvements.

I really like Beetham tower but I think they could have chosen a more appropriate setting.

Historic settings are no-longer being built so I dont think we should tamper with those that remain.

I only visited occasionally during the 80s and was probably too young to notice but from seeing various documentaries on TV, photos etc from the period, the city looked like a dump, there are still some poorer areas outside the centre that need to be improved but the areas that most visitors would see are now very smart.

Something a bit different today, a triumph of British ingenuity, the Magic Roundabout of Swindon, Wiltshire.
