When viewed on its own, this looks an excellent design from Rogers. However, the view with the Victorian Italianate villa-style row houses raises questions about its contextuality and design along this side, despite its massing step downs. A row of trees along the side of the building doesn't really cut it.

Rogers's style has never been contextual. And to be fair, this building is positioned on one of the ugliest and noisiest road junctions in London. The Victorian villas on one side aren't representative of the context.

I think the design looks good, especially at the ground level. It's extremely airy and green: exactly what is needed in the slightly oppressive area. Connectivity and permeability looks fantastic, too. A real coup for the area, imo!

Interesting development. I wonder how this would affect the 'flyunder' if that was to go ahead as it shows a completely different design on the conceptual renders (which shows the existing office building being demolished / Blacks Road being removed and a larger straighter road positioned just south of it, carrying local traffic from the A4 I think):



The existing buildings, especially the one on the left below, has been an eyesore for years.

Thanks london lad and LAYiddo for your pics. While I question the contextuality of the proposed Rogers design with respect to the scale of the Victorian row houses, and trying to use a line of trees to mask the issue, I concur that the proposal is a vast improvement on the existing buildings, and I am generally a fan of Rogers architectural designs.

Nice design, but will it be approved by the council, it seems developers are starting to give up on West London due the continual local objections to new build and their projects being thrown out. This is good for East London which is enjoying an absolute building boom and as we like to say on the better side of London, "East is best, the west is for the rest".....

Good it will definitely up the quality of Development in Hammersmith.
The fly under should happen but I don't hold out much hope under the current Mayor's tenure.

The tallest element has gone from 28 to 22 floors, which runs the soar factor. But this is an RSHP it should be of excellent quality.

Ironic Richard Rogers moves his office from Hammersmith to the cheese grater in the city but now seems to be rebuilding large parts of the town he left.
