I know it's been 3 years since this was posted, but this beauty in Baltimore, of about the same vintage, has been vacant for about a year and is now being converted into apartments. When completed, it was the tallest building in the US south of New York. The conversion will be called the "Baltimore Trust" after the original name of the building. So there is hope for the Memphis building after all!

Funny story, last year five windows appeared on the Michigan Central Station in Detorit, but nobody knows why. The owner apparently doesnt have the full rights to redevelop it, but considering that interior stripping has been going on for the past few years, hopefully there's a chance the building will be brought back to life in the next decade or so.

Abandoned building in Miami
At Blue Lagoon Dr (in the vicinity of Miami International Airport)
I don't have much info about this building, but what I do know is that it was intended to be a hotel and it has been sitting abandoned for many years.

The exterior is filled with tenants, but the interior is completely vacant except for a Walgreen's that occupies the bottom three floors. If you go on the elevator at Walgreen's, you'll see buttons for the upper floors, but I wasn't brave enough to press them.

The Industrial National Bank Building at 111 Westminster Street has been the tallest building in Providence, and the U.S. state of Rhode Island, since 1929. it has been vacant ever since it lost bank of America as a tenant in 2013, being left in a deteriorating state and pockmarked with gaps of missing limestone.

It is estimated that at least US$115 million would be needed to revive the so-called "Superman Building", and because of the high costs and outdated elevators, heating/air conditioning system, electrical system, and environmental issues, its demolition is being considered. A new 36-storey building that would be a new consolidated headquarters for Hasbro is being considered for the site. A report at GoLocalProv.com in 2014 found that the Industrial National Bank Building had "no value", according to an appraisal by Providence-based Scotti and Associates.

Personally, I'd rather see a residential conversion for the "Superman Building", and that new Hasbro HQ Tower be built somewhere else.

It's frustrating that Providence should even consider demolishing their most iconic skyscraper. Maybe the most iconic in all of New England. I can only think of Prudential Tower and the Custom House Tower in Boston to rival its status. It would be a loss of metropolitan identity and history comparable to the destruction of the Twins in NYC. People identify the city, even the region with this particular building. Shame on Providence and Rhode Island for letting it slip into dilapidation.

The Terrace Plaza Hotel in Cincinnati, opened in 1948, has a windowless lower block-style portion that originally housed two department stores, an 11-floor hotel that rose above it, and a restaurant on its top floor. The hotel closed in 2008, and the Terrace Plaza has been vacant ever since. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2017.

Proposals to bring the Terrace Plaza building back to use have involved removing the windowless brick facade and replacing it with glass, but that will result in the building losing its historic designation. As unique as the Terrace Plaza is, I don't think any tenants will want to move into the first seven floors of the building if the facade remains the way it is now, because the windowless facade is a big obstacle to its redevelopment. The reason for the facade change is because no one thinks of big windowless facades as fashionable and attractive anymore.

So many beautiful Deco high rises Stateside - a reminder of the old saying, 'the US is the oldest country in the world, because it's been in the 20th century longer than anyone else'.

This abandoned building called "The Boss Serviced Suites" was supposed to be a high-end hotel & apartment tower in the city of Klang (around 40km from Kuala Lumpur and in close proximity to Port Klang) but has been left abandoned for over three years... What an eyesore, as it's also the second tallest structure in the town!
