That's what happens when one tower is built and then all towers are banned from the area, what do they expect??

They recently cleaned up the concrete sides, it looks better now, however the parking garage in the bottom still is a big eyeshore.

It's typical 1960-70ies urban renewal.

Great topic! The problem is, however, that some skyscrapers are surrounded by "skyscrapers" or highrises less then 500 feet and thus not look so lonely.

One example is Almaty:

About Turning Torso in Malmö: After completion in 2005 no other skyscrapers have been built in the area. For 10 years! But it has lead to skyscrapers/highrises in other parts of town, for example Hyllie. Malmö live that will open this week is situated not very far from TT, 85m tall.

How could it not be Taipei 101?

It's a monster skyscraper in a city with hardly any others.

Definitely Taipei 101.

But it'll just be a pretender to the throne when Kingdom Tower gains more height.

I think the Malmo Tower is lonelier. Maybe the Ryugyong is tied with Taipei 101.

I think Laktha Center in St Petersburg will be a very lonely tower...

The Oakbrook Terrace Tower in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. It's less than 500 feet, but still very lonely.

Turning Torso (Malmo, Sweden)

Turning Torso, Malmö by amx566, on Flickr

I went there once. It was SO LONELY. All around it were cold, dull, modern apartments that looked like they should be somewhere more . . . Communist.
