The BBC Region - "The North East and Cumbria"

A current discussion in the Skybar (and in the 'Admin Thread' in our 'Communal Area') about the coverage of CUMBRIA issues on Skyscrapercity, reminded me that one of the reasons it is fairly logical that Cumbria is covered on SSC in the "North East England Forum" is because of the long-term links that Carlisle and the West Coast has with Newcastle for its MEDIA COVERAGE.

The "North East and Cumbria" BBC Region has been around for a very long time . . .

FILMING for the major new ITV drama series Deep Water is now taking place in the Coniston area.

The drama series, which stars multi-award winning actresses Anna Friel, Sinead Keenan and Rosalind Eleazar, is set to be aired early in 2019.

Beth Kennedy, director of Ulverston Community Enterprises, reveals that the new film about Laurel and Hardy is paying dividends to Ulverston

WHEN the film Stan & Ollie was released earlier in the month, director Jon S. Baird, as well as stars Steve Coogan and John C Reilly, admitted they were worried about portraying the comedy duo to a modern audience.

Peter Rabbit 2 to be filmed in Ambleside in April


SCENES for ‘Peter Rabbit 2’ will be filmed on Compston Road, probably on April 7, Lakes Parish Council were told at the full council meeting.

The CGI live-action comedy-drama, based on Beatrix Potter’s stories about Peter, is a sequel to the first ‘Peter Rabbit’ which was Sony Pictures’ biggest-ever non-James Bond film in the UK.

Movie crew heads to Ambleside to film Peter Rabbit 2


LAKES parish councillors met the film crew for the movie ‘Peter Rabbit 2’ to discuss filming on April 7.

It is due to take place from 7am to midday in and around Ambleside Toy Shop at Compston Road.

Film crew vehicles will be parked from Saturday afternoon onwards in the school playground, along Vicarage Road and on both sides of Compston Road.

Biscuit factory on television


TELEVSION cameras will go behind the scenes in Carlisle’s McVitie’s factory next week.

The Caldewgate biscuit factory will be featured in a Channel 5 series called Secrets of the McVitie’s Factory.

It will be broadcast on Thursday at 9pm.

The cameras will follow 24 hours in the life on the factory floor at McVitie’s.

It says the show will “document the work of the staff making some of the nation’s favourite biscuits.

Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci finish filming in Cumbria


Oscar-winning actor Colin Firth has completed six weeks of filming in Cumbria.

Firth, 59, was making a film called Supernova, co-starring American actor Stanley Tucci. It was filmed mainly in the Lake District.

Last Saturday night Firth visited the Keswick Alhambra cinema to watch Judy, a drama about Judy Garland. It stars his Bridget Jones’s Diary co-star Renée Zellweger.

Paddlers for Life to make a splash on TV


A SOUTH Lakeland Cancer Charity will be appearing on television as part of a documentary series.

An organisation like no other, Paddlers for Life is a charity which helps to support Cancer survivors across Cumbria and Lancashire through the use of Dragon Boat Paddling.

Film-makers bring boost to Lake District economy through films like Dolittle


FILM and TV productions brought an estimated £1m into Cumbria last year, after latest Hollyood blockbuster Dolittle was partly filmed in the county.

The figures were revealed following the worldwide release of the family favourite on Friday, February 7, starring Robert Downer JR, famous for his role as Marvel's Iron Man.

The film features glimpses of Kirkby Lonsdale where parts of the filming took place in May 2018.

Antiques Roadshow to visit Windermere


THE Antiques Roadshow is coming to the South Lakes.

The long-running BBC show will visit Windermere Jetty on Tuesday, June 9.

First broadcast in 1979, Antiques Roadshow is one of the broadcaster’s most popular programmes.

The show’s presenter, Fiona Bruce, said: “We saw some astounding valuations in last year’s series. Let’s try and do even better this year.
