Anyone else heard this rumour, further fuelled by large survey teams seen on the line between Seaham's network rail station and Dawdon crossing recently.

My gut feel is it's a non-starter, given than Seaham is in County Durham, not Tyne & Wear. But it has massively grown recently, both in large numbers of new residential estates as well as business developments, and could probably justify being on the network?

Wonderful Metro journey to work this morning, it's the first time that I've heard "autumn conditions" being used to justify delays! High winds, inclement weather, ice, blizzards... These I can understand, but just "autumn"? Why don't they just admit that the system and service are poor and steadily getting worse? If you can't provide an at least reliable service its only going to drive more people off it and to be honest, if the normal train service was more frequent I'd use that instead

Car park closures

From 25 November 2019 to Summer 2020, Durham Station car park will have significantly reduced capacity. Part of the car park will be closed to allow work to add an extra 135 parking spaces.

Temporary changes to Durham Station Car Park

During the construction work, the lower level of Aykley Heads car park will be closed. There will be significantly fewer car parking spaces during this time and we apologise in advance for the inconvenience this will cause.

Sign I came across near the northbound platform of the station on Tuesday 17/12/19 approx 1115

Noticed a substantial base for Bentley further up on Aykley Heads area a few minutes earlier - wonder if this is associated with the car park works OR perhaps the sewer works being carried out around Durham City

There are updated pictures of the proposed station live on the website now. You can view them full screen and they include interior views and a floor plan of the ground floor layout.

Not a dramatic change but looks much nicer inside and has two entrances to stop the station being used as a thoroughfare by students to the same extent as it currently is.

With the current uncertainties around Norther Rail, I wonder if it will have any effect on local transport? Particularly as Northern are involved in the proposed redevelopment of Sunderland Station? If they lose the franchise, how much will it affect the redevelopment? The station really feels like its falling d I wn at the minute and I can't help but think it's only a matter of time before it's taken out of action.

The new technology which will help expand Metro - and keep trains moving when power lines go down

Metro bosses have revealed details of a key upgrade from their new £362million fleet that will help avert catastrophic shutdowns and pave the way for an “easy” expansion of the network into new areas.
