Plans lodged to demolish factory that closed with loss of 152 jobs

Plans have been revealed to flatten a Workington factory which closed three months ago leaving 152 workers without jobs.
Eastman Chemicals wants to begin demolishing the prominent Siddick factory at the beginning of August, stating it will take 16 months to complete the task.
The company first revealed that the Workington site was in trouble earlier this year and began talks with unions and the workforce, blaming changes in the global market.
But following weeks’ worth of consultations and emergency talks, the decision was made to pull out of west Cumbria after 47 years.
The news sent shockwaves through the community.
The MP for Workington at the time Sir Tony Cunningham, who worked tirelessly alongside Allerdale Council and Britain’s Energy Coast in an effort to save jobs, called it an extremely “sad day” for the town.
Now plans have been lodged with Allerdale Council this week for the prior notification of the proposed demolition of the factory.
