Construction of the deck connecting Busan Station with Busan North Harbor Development to be completed by the end of next year.

The project will actually be done in 3 phases, with the last (and longest) to be completed by 2022 only, but nonetheless, the initial deck should be completed by next year.

According to this article, it seems like the renderings for the Transfer Hub shown below have already been approved:

Quote:
"이 부산역 보행덱 연결 거점인 환승센터는 아직 착공하지 않은 상태다. 자칫 보행덱이 반쪽 기능으로 전락할 우려가 제기됨에 따라 추진단은 공공기관이나 대기업 등을 상대로 전방위 투자 유치를 지원해 조속히 착공이 이뤄지도록 노력하기로 했다."

Opening of the underground passage between Busan Station and Busan Subway Station

Well, it's pretty much all in the title... A 100m passageway between the Busan Station (train) and the Busan Station (subway line 1) will open to the public on July 1st, connecting passengers more easily without the need to go out on the plaza. The 100m-long, 8-meter wide underground tunnel had been under planning since 2011.

To be honest, I didn't know at all about this building. Last time I was in Busan though (about a month ago), there was clearly no such building under construction, either here or at other places in the North Harbor Redevelopment project. Of course there are lots of excavating, surfacing and such work going on, but no cranes for actual construction (except of course Hyupsung Marina G7 which began construction a while ago).

Well, it does seem possible that this project will be affected by the slow down of Korea's economy. I could certainly be wrong, but the housing situation in Busan seems less acute than in Seoul, and a lot of the development could be speculative in the first place. I'm just guessing; I don't know the history here other than that it seems like a city-sponsored project, rather than a market-driven one.
