Gosford: $10m redevelopment plans for Leagues Club Field revealed

FIRST images of a new-look Central Coast Leagues Club suggest two giant towers could be built as part of the club’s $450 million redevelopment.

The Leagues Club has today announced it’s future vision, with images showing a completely new state of the art facility including an alfresco dining precinct, hotel accommodation and improved pedestrian access to Gosford and the waterfront.

It is predicted to generate 1500 direct construction jobs and up to 400 permanent jobs.

The Club, which is the longest running on the Coast, is showing it’s not going to be left behind in the revitalisation of Gosford with the Masterplan aimed at guiding the club’s “evolution into a modern, connected hub of community for the coast”.

The waterfront precinct has been the centre of controversy over the years, with the sale of Gosford Public School and development of the ATO office and St Hilliers finance building.

Many people believe a performing arts centre should have been part of the precinct.

The Leagues Club is located in a pivotal location between the waterfront and Gosford.

Club chairman Peter James OAM said the masterplan, while still conceptual, was started two years ago when the State Government announced the revitalisation of Gosford.

“We thought what a great opportunity it would be for us to look at what we are doing to cement our future,” he said.

Gosford Leagues Club has been an institution on the coast for more than 60 years.
“Central Coast Leagues has been a centre point to life on the Coast for more than 60 years. We’re a familiar, much loved gathering place. Built by locals, for locals,” he said.

”Rich history inevitably comes with some challenges. And in our case the challenge is a building that no longer reflects the range or quality of experiences we need to offer our patrons.

“Every journey starts with a single step, and this masterplan is the Club’s first on a journey towards a truly modern, welcoming and fun future at Central Coast Leagues.”

The announcement comes as the State Government’s Gosford revitalisation plans further develop. Last week saw the announcement of $10 million to transform Leagues Club Field into a natural bushland setting with water passages and play areas, along with a smaller sports field.

The $10 million plans for the transformation of Leagues Club Field announced last week.
”Central Coast Leagues is not just a centre of community here on the Coast, we’re quite literally at the centre of the community,” Mr James said.

“Understanding that the State has plans to fundamentally transform neighbouring community amenities such as Ray Maher Field, we’ve taken the opportunity to articulate our place within a broader process of urban transformation.”

He said the club had the potential to be the “exciting, welcoming gateway to a revitalised Gosford”.

Central Coast Leagues Club's opened The Terrace late last year
The Club has been upgrading it’s existing facilities in recent years, unveiling a $6 million makeover in late 2017 which included a ground floor revamp with five new bars, open sports bar as well as a new brasserie and cafe. It also opened The Terrace bar last year.

With a conceptual masterplan now in place, the next step will include a detailed exploration of redevelopment options, feasibility and design.

Central Coast Leagues has been at the heart of life on the Coast for more than 60 years. A rich history comes with some challenges, and our challenge is a facility that no longer reflects the quality and diversity of experiences we want to offer members like you.

We’ve developed a new master plan to show how our Club can be modernised and transformed as the city of Gosford evolves.

Features include a vibrant alfresco dining precinct, improved pedestrian connections to Gosford city and the waterfront, hotel accommodation, and with new, state-of-the-art facilities for members to enjoy.

Please enjoy this very first look at our plans for a bright, fun future at Central Coast Leagues Club and be sure to register your details with us.
