Palladium is gonna officially changed to St Regis from 1st Septemberhttp://m.timesofindia.com/city/mumbai/st-regis-hotels-to-debut-in-india/articleshow/47461825.cms
MUMBAI: The iconic St. Regis is checking into India. The ultra-luxury brand of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide will dot the Mumbai skyline this August or September as the NYSE-listed chain looks to ramp up its presence in Asia's third largest economy. The lodging company will fly the St. Regis flag over the 386-room Palladium Hotel, which would mark Starwood's fourth property in the city and 44th in the country.
St. Regis is entering a market with growing number of wealthy individuals but plenty of competition where an oversupply of rooms has depressed tariffs, especially in big cities, for the last few years. Starwood, which operates over 30 properties under St. Regis brand globally, plans to have a limited edition of the luxury label in the country.
Palladium Hotel, owned by Pallazzio Hotels & Leisure__a joint venture between Atul Ruia's Phoenix Mills and Pune based builder Avinash Bhosale__was on the look-out for a new operator after its abrupt split with Hong Kong's Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts in September 2013. Subsequently, the owners renamed the property as Palladium.
"We have been wanting to bring St. Regis into India for a while. When we were presented with this opportunity, the hotel's location, sophistication, features, culinary offerings et al fitted well with the St. Regis brand," said Dilip Puri, MD, Starwood India.
In Mumbai, St. Regis will be positioned against the Taj, Oberoi and Four Seasons, where average occupancy level is 65% and room rate is Rs 13,000. Mumbai, unlike other markets like Delhi, where an oversupply of rooms have put downward pressure on tariffs, has remained buoyant and resilient.
Hoteliers expect fiscal 2016 to be better on the back of the government's thrust on tourism, new visa reforms and a reversal of economic growth which had slowed down substantially since 2011.
Besides St. Regis, Starwood, one of the earliest foreign chains to enter the country, has a presence through Sheraton, Le Meridien, W, Westin and Four Points brands.
