Because Joburg experienced pretty much its worst rains of the season so everyone was ducking for cover. I would assume it also affected transport, considering large numbers of people would have arrived by car.

80 000 people attended the African Cup of Nations final last night.
FIFA President Sepp Blatter attended the final. He said he felt like he was at the World Cup and that Soccer City deserves an award of its own.

Plenty of concerts held there, they ruin the pitch.

What ruined the pitch was extremely heavy rains on/just before the first day of the tournament. Cape Town holds just as many concerts and the pitch is fine.

The pitch is usually well maintained. Heavy rain + a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert a few days before the final.

No offence but how on Earth did the South Africa FA allow a concert during a tournament is beyond me.Theyre either very greedy or very stupid,or both.I cant imagine something like this happening at a Euro or World Cup.

None taken. I think the decision to allow the concert was influenced by uncertainty regarding which stadiums would be used for the AFCON tournament. The stadium only hosted the opening and closing games.

a sad competition this year

Even with beautiful stadiums the atmosphere is degrading.

Funny...it's the highest-attended AFCON since the new format came into play and according to friends who went, the atmosphere was amazing.

CTS looked shocking for the Boland vs Stormers match.

SAFA do not own or control Soccer City. Stadium Management SA control the stadium, and have said that they will continue scheduling concerts, as they generate the most revenue. In 2011 a Bafana match had to be moved to Ellis Park.

The RHCP concert had been scheduled there before the tournament was awarded to South Africa as an emergency solution to the war in Libya. Would have probably been too hugely costly to cancel the concert.

Maybe ,but from what i know during a torunament or for a special event(like a final) the association or whatever owns the stadium. The NFL takes charge of the superbowl host with a month before(as an example).

Usually yes. There was no special handing over of this stadium to the local organizing committee. 3 Days after the final, the league soccer returned to the stadium.

Very impressive stadium, both in terms of capacity and design!

But for the Netherlands this stadium will always be the stadium of the lost WC final
