(Old Tainan Prefecture Hall)

Tainan Prefecture Hall, an architecture work of Moriyama Matsunosuke who was also responsible for Taiwan Presidential Office, is in Mansard style which is a popular style applied in public buildings after 19 century in France.

It is now the “National Museum of Taiwanese Literature” and the “National Center for Research and Preservation of Cultural Properties”!

Duksung Girls High School

Founded in 1920. I'm pretty certain at least one of these buildings dates from the colonial period, and possibly both of them.

Statue of Kim Song-su, Choong Ang High School
Inchon" Kim Song-su --- depending on your point of view, is either one of the fathers of Korean capitalism, journalism and nationalist education or king of the Japanese collaborators. Purchased Choong Ang High School (which was experiencing financial difficulties) in 1915, just after returning to Korea with a degree in political economy from Japan's Waseda University. Founded the Dong-A Ilbo in 1920, and bought Korea University (which, strangely enough, was also struggling financially) in 1932. He spent the war years promoting the Japanese war effort, but after Japan's surrender, he ended up an adviser to the US Military Government in Korea. He eventually founded the Korea Democratic Party (the ancestor of today's Democratic Party) and became Korea's 2nd vice president in 1951 before resigning the next year over President Syngman Rhee's dictatorial tendencies. Died in 1955.

Old Joseon Jungang Ilbo Building

Now the Jongno Office of Nonghyeop, the building was built in 1926 as the office of the Joseon Jongang Ilbo newspaper (formerly the Jungang Ilbo, renamed when "Mongyang" Lyuh Woon-Hyung took over as publisher in 1933. Oddly enough, however, the information marker incorrectly identifies the building as the former headquarters of the Chosun Ilbo.

Seoul Museum of Art

Built in 1928 as Keijo Court House, the building became the Supreme Court of Korea after Liberation. The court house became the model for many other public buildings in colonial Korea. When the Supreme Court was moved to Seocho-dong in 1995, the old building was converted into the Seoul Museum of Art after extensive remodeling.

1934 . Judicial Yuan Of ROC

One of the few remaining examples of Japanese Shinto shrine architecture left in Korea. Built in 1928. Now used as an office of the ROK Marine Corps Veterans Association
