Agree, the Hebbal-Carmelaram line was indeed well planned by BMRC, as was the Hosakerehalli-Varthur line.
They covered huge catchments & connected so many untouched areas, cutting through CBDs as well.

These two lines, if built in ph-3 aling with the Vijayanagar-Kadabgere line & the west-ORR line would negate the need for all other piecemeal lines & the ones to Ramanagara, Tumkur, Hosakote etc.

Extensions of these trunk lines can then be done in ph-4 but there really is no need to carry them too far outwards.

It is not a matter of choosing between the two lines. Both lines are important. I don't know what makes you think that this line is unnecessary. Actually, EGL has around 45,000 employees and Bagmane tech park would have equal number of employees. Both tech parks are visited daily by a large number of people and a line connecting these is also very important.

With two Metro stations, Hebbal to become multi-modal hub

Quote:

BMRCL, along with a private company, began soil testing for the airport line on Ballari Road on Wednesday.

Hebbal is all set to become a major multi-modal hub with Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) contemplating two stations in two different corridors: One, catering to commuters travelling towards South Bengaluru; another towards Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).

The stations identified are Hebbal North (Central Silk Board-KR Puram (ORR)- Kempegowda International Airport) and Hebbal West (JP Nagar-Hebbal).

While BMRCL will soon float tenders for the ORR-KIA corridors (Phase 2), ORR-West (JP Nagar-Hebbal) will be taken up only in Phase 3, which is still in the planning stage. “An ORR-Airport Metro train originating at Central Silk Board (light blue) will go to the airport via Kempapura-Hebbal North-Yelahanka. An ORR-West Metro train (orange) from Central Silk Board will cover almost the entire ORR and go to JP Nagar via Kempapura and Hebbal West,” a BMRCL official said.

“The exact location of Hebbal West is not yet decided. RITES, a public sector engineering consultancy company, is now doing undertaking a study for augmenting capacity of Hebbal Junction. Hebbal West Metro station will be closer to Hebbal railway station. The distance between North and West stations will be around 500m,” said a BMRCL official.
Sources said Kempapura is likely to be the interchange of the ORR-Airport Metro and ORR-West corridors. For pedestrian movement across Hebbal Junction, a skywalk will be constructed that will connect North and West stations.

Earlier, 83km of Phase 3 was planned to connect areas like Hebbal to JP Nagar, Magadi Road Toll Gate to Kadabagere, Gottigere to Basavapura, Nagawara to Aerospace Park, Kogilu Cross to Rajanukunte, Iblur to Carmelaram and Bommasandra to Attibele.

Sources said Hebbal to JP Nagar route will be prioritised. “We are yet to finalise the Phase 3 corridors since a feasibility study are being done,” an official said.

There should be an investigation into this repeated feasibility studies. This is the 3rd instance in 6 years that I read the news about feasibility study for Phase 3, forget DPR. Is there a personal feasibility study for each MD/Party?

Friends,

What is the pre-requisite to start track works in R1 extn and R5 as 70% of the viaduct works in this section seems completed ?

Hebbal can be a hubbal only if Sarjapura/Yelhanka line takes shape in Phase 3.

Again i reject this idea of ORR West JP-Hebbal. The idea of metro is not to go around the city , it should be crisscrossing the city with the shortest route.

They can instead extend the BPL to whole of ORR , and a step backward cancel the ORR line and instead concentrate on Marathalli - Hoskerehalli line.

What exactly is the guesstimate (considering the pending spans and the actual pace of progress) to complete the via ducts in each of the reaches?

It will be a 17-18 KM line and will connect the ORR line at both the ends besides connecting to Hebbal-Carmelaram Line at Kendriya Sadan, Marathahalli-Hosakerehallli Line at Domlur and purple line at Byappanhalli.
Instead of Koramangala Inner Ring Road alone, if we have an inner circular or atleast semi circular line not necessarily ending in Silkboard as Silkboard is already crowded with Two Flyovers, Ramps, Metro Interchange, an inner circular (preferrably semi circle now from Soap Factory Metro to Deepanjalinagar with Underground in Hanumanthnagar - Srinagar - Gandhi Bazaar Stretch) would be more helpful and meaningful.

Out of curiousity, why is the metro coach near SV Road station still under wraps over there? It's been over 8 years, shouldn't BMRC think of recovering it or atleast clearing up the space it's taking?

Though I like the coverage of the inner circular metro, I would prefer it to be made up of three-four distinct lines. The advantage is that as the city extends, one can simply extend these lines to cover those areas. A simple inner circle made up by three lines is in the map below.

Ring lines usually become necessary to prevent severe over-crowding of radial trunk lines that cut through city & also to shorten journey times. This is because it provides alternatives for people to transfer from other lines to circular lines to reach destinations, maybe faster & cheaper as city core usually attracts maximum passenger traffic.

Beijing has built ring lines to reduce over-crowding. Other cities like Chicago too have circular city center networks for this very reason. If there are too many frequent transfers required, people will be discouraged from using such lines as an alternative.
