Mid field remote stands are poorly lit. Have to reach very close to see the aircrafts in night hours. So unless one uses the aircrafts to be parked there, cant say about the status now.

Any country would have loved to maximize if they had similar to Chennai's geographical advantage in international sector (mainly on APAC region) but here it is just wasted.

The Indian oil fuel station is getting relocated and the Air India aircraft maintanance shed next to it is set to go. There will be 1 to 2 slots they can get

The entire area between cargo terminal and domestic terminal should be wiped off. Easily 4 to 5 aircrafts can be parked there. The people in that locality could be relocated to multi storied building across the road on the land currently used as Air India stadium and Plant quarantine Center under ministry of agriculture

"Wiping off" existing structures will come at a cost.

I don't think those costs will be justified, considering that the upcoming mid-field terminal at MAA will unlock a far higher number of bays than the number of bays that could be made available by re-locating existing infrastructure.

The good thing is that the second airport project is now gaining momentum, and will relieve the pressure on MAA to create more bays by demolishing stuff..

CHENNAI: There could be more early morning flights from the city airport as SpiceJet is looking at increasing the number of planes that will be parked at the airport to fly early morning schedules.


Ajay Singh, chairman, SpiceJet, said that the airline has asked for more parking slots as there was scope for fleet expansion in the south and to small towns.

"We have asked for six parking bays at Chennai. The airport is also expanding the airside capacity. The routes will be decided later," he added. “Airside” capacity is the number of landings and takeoffs an airport can accommodate in an hour. Spicejet currently has 16 aircraft parked overnight at the airport.

Good that he didnt make any big promises with new flight launches from Chennai.

If members here interested do post question to his/Spicjet FB/Twitter pages about the lone Intl flight it operates from Chennai after its first MAA-CMB flight started in 2010.
