I think the author of the article is exaggerating. New York is still pretty much a vibrant and bustling city. A little less livable and a bit too hypercompetitive but still a bustling metropolis.

Didn't expect this miami/dubai effect to be as drastic in NYC since it's so much larger and more established.

If Republicans were still in power there would still be Hoovervilles in Central Park. Just a little history, Hooverville was named after President Hoover, a Republican. Remember also it was President FDR, a Democrat (call him a Socialist if you want and I'll be proud of it) got America out of that Republican Depression. If Donnie boy was Governor or Mayor, let alone the fool in the White House we will see Trumpvilles, no doubt about it.
