Malda Bypass - June 2019

Although Malda bypass (only one flank) is now open to traffic but it's not yet fully ready. All bridges approaches are yet to receive the base layer of tar. Nevertheless, it's doable in a hatchback! Here is a video from our drive through Malda bypass in the first week of June 2019:

Cheers,
Last December we had to travel to Siliguri by road. It was excruciatingly painful and took us 19 hours!

Indeed, it was bad. The Farakka barrage road repair/partial closure made it worse. However, it's better now after Farakka repair is done.

Have you seen any progress regarding Baharampur Bypass? In Google map, I can only see the pillars of the bridge on the Ganges.

I saw some work progress only in the northern side of the river with both men and machines are in action. The bridge over Bhagirathi (Hooghly) river is not complete yet. It's more or less in same status compared to what you see in Google Maps.

Best,

Raiganj - Dalkhola widening work has resumed

The widening work by the new EPC contractor, after HCC was terminated, has now started for Raiganj - Dalkhola section of NH-12 (old NH-34). The earth-filling and culvert construction works are in full swing. Here is a video from our drive in earlier this month.

Cheers,

Hi All,

Last week I was on a trip to West Bengal and Midnapore in specific. I witnessed some work going on for the expansion of NH-116B. It looks like it will end up as a two lane road without dividers. A ROB is also coming up on the road over Panskura Digha rail line.

I am posting a video of the Baharampur-Farakka section. Here you may see the current progress/on-going work on the Baharampur bypass, Ahiron Bridge-n-approaches, and Ballalpur ROB. These 3 are the incomplete stretches of this section of NH-34 at present.

Asian Highway 2 widening in Siliguri is almost complete

Here is a video of the Matigara - Bagdogra stretch of Asian Highway 2 (AH-2) in Siliguri. The 4/6-laning work is almost complete now. They were giving some finishing touches to the paint job.

Bagdogra - Ghoshpukur | Siliguri - East West Corridor connecting Highway

I am sharing a video of the ongoing 4-laning work for Bagdogra - Ghoshpukur stretch of old NH-31. This would connect Siliguri with East West Corridor (new NH-27) through a 4-laned highway.

With 4-laning work started on this missing stretch, now, except for Barasat - Krishananagar section, full Kolkata - Siliguri route is under different tenders where 4-laning works are either completed or ongoing. Unfortunately, 84 KM long Barasat - Krishnanagar section continues to suffer. The re-tendering process is stalled for last 1 year, as SG is yet to receive the Delhi letter to go ahead [1].

Islampur Bypass

Islampur bypass project which is a part of the East West Corridor, is one of the the most delayed projects in West Bengal. It was stuck due to land acquisition issues for more than a decade. However, in last 2 years, there has been a significant progress. The land filling work seems to be mostly done.

You may see the progress of Islampur bypass in this video towards the end of it.

Raiganj - Malda

Here is a video of the Raiganj - Malda section of NH-12. The only part in this stretch where 4-laning work is not complete, is Aradpur Overpass for the BSF camp.

Farakka - Kaliachak - Malda

In this stretch, the 4-laning work is completed only between Farakka and Kaliachak. However, for Kaliachak - Sujapur stretch, the 4-laning work is effectively stalled.

Golam, great updates as usual. As you have traveled on this stretch, very roughly what is the percentage (or in kms) of work completed between Krishnanagar and Siliguri?

From Airport (NSCB) to airport (Bagdogra), the distance via NH34/31 is around 558 km. Out of this, as of now,
  • 4-laning completed: around 343 km
  • 4-laning ongoing (active): around 90 km
  • 4-laning ongoing (but stalled currently): around 39 km
  • Not tendered yet: 86 km *

* It includes Dak Bungalow to Hela Battala stretch: 2 km and Barasat Santoshpur - Krishnanagar: 84 km

The issue of NH-34 widening, specially Barasat - Krishnanagar section which was supposed to be handed over to NH wing of PWD as executive agency (rather than NHAI) but yet to receive all the clearance to begin the tendering, was raised in front of Nitin Gadkari in Lok Sabha, yesterday by our 3 different MPs: Adhir Chowdhury, Saugata Roy and Sudip Bandyopadhyay. Thanks to them, Gadkari has promised to look into it. Hope for the best!

So, if I understood correctly, the official numbers given by the minister Nitin Ghadkari is as follows:

NH34 (Airport to Dalkhola) - 424 kms
Completed - 242.7 kms
Construction left - 181.3 kms (58kms awarded, rest in limbo)

Hopefully it gets approved.

In google earth it looks like a lot of the acquisition has been done from WBUT to outskirts of Ranaghat.
