Have to say i watched the match and just felt sorry for both sets and fans and sorry for the Cup itself.. Nothing against Baku but the whole debacle said alot about the current state of football and the priorities of Uefa. Predominately surely a cup final should be about the teams and the fans that have got there. Very depressing days..

Why did Baku build such a stadium? And how come it's allowed to be called "Olympic Stadium" when that kebab shop in London got closed that time?

I'm not sure if the issues surrounding this year's Europa League Final host (as described in this StadiumDB article) would have been any different if Baku had a similarly-sized football-only (rectangular) stadium instead.

Personally, the only issue I've had with the Baku Olympic Stadium as host is its capacity, which is probably a bit too large for an Europa League Final, and it's better suited for a Champions League Final. I guess they had to do something to test the waters for a future CL final.

I guess Baku will never have a large football-only stadium in our lifetimes. If you actually wanted such a stadium earlier this decade, Baku sure did a good job of blowing that opportunity.

Baku is a Euro 2020 host. I'm guessing part of the decision to award it this EL factored that in.
