The worst logo for Olympic Games ever.
What an eyesore.

Well, design is my background and what i study currently, and in my humble opinion, and no offense to the designer, it is Underwhelming somehow. It works great perhaps as an exhibition logo, but as a Sport Event logo, it is quite irrelevant. This just my opinion.

It is unique allright, if we look to the previous Olympic logo, and somehow reminiscent of the 2012 logo in term of new style.

And i google for the design background, what kind of style it is, the inspiration etc. And i found similiraties to the work of Ikko Tanaka, one of Japan's prolific designer whose work is like this:

as you can see above, it plays with simple geometric shape and minimalism, a style all strated in 1964 when Japan had the honour of hosting its first Olympic.

The Logo incorporates a geometric shape, and somehow cut into half, almost like collage or cut-out, and playing with its abstractness. And the shapes form into a "T". This kind of style is called " Swiss/International Style", a style once famous in 1970-1980 and is still being used till now ( and a style Tanaka used). And this design is also inspired by American Modern style ( adapted as Japan Modernism) in term of its cut-out shaping

And i know, in term of design, it looks very Japan-ish with its retro-ism and minimalism, a style Japan famous for.

--------------

But, i cant help but asking, could/should it be better? I think the bid logo is better in term of the shape ( albeit the color is too "free" )
I like what Japan has offered with its design style, it is simple, yet it still has balance, rhythm, etc., something that this logo lacks very much

But this is just my opinion.

Normally I know what I think of Olympic logos pretty much straight away. Rio, Sochi and London I liked from the off and still like. Vancouver and Pyeonchang I never liked and still don't like.

With this logo though I'm finding it hard to get any "feeling" for it. It's smart, yes. It's well balanced, yes. But I don't have strong feeling about it positive or negative. It doesn't repulse or excite.

So yeah. Very much waiting to see how the Look develops. Based on this logo it could end up being very dry and corporate, or - hopefully - it could look smart and minimalist. 50/50 right now on which way it goes.

The design is underwhelming for me too, not that I care about it too much but I do hope this vcisual austerity doesn't go into the new Olympic stadium design too.

Meh..

I was hoping for something a little more detailed and striking. Athens 2004 still my fave.

At least none Lisa-Simpson-doing-the-job logo. It's minimal and it hasn't included the five olympic colors on its design, so I like it. Second favorite logo from 1992 till now, Athens 2004 still the best.

I like it. It's not trying to be bright and show off-y. Each shape has a meaning, which is important as well. But we must let it develop, and evolve into the pictrograms and look of the games to take it in its entirety.

The more i look of it, i find it more unique in now kind of better way.

It's minimalism ala Japan not at its finest though, the black segment overwhelms too much this whole "White box", I'd rather have the gold and black color inversed, though it will have all new different meaning ( black being the mixture of all color, thus also all humans, uniting, yada yada)

It's unique, but like i said, as an exhibition/art gallery event this logo will be suitable for

I can't define this emblem... I think that it is not horrible, as many other say, but it is very strange and, in certain ways, also very simple and not as unique as, for example, the emblem of Rio 2016... I don't know...

The logo itself is a disgrace but what makes it even more hilarious is that they chose such an uninspired font compared to the Olympics in 2008,2012 and 2016 and the Fifa World Cup from 2006 to 2018.

Some pictures to show you what I mean:

Beijing 2008

London 2012

Rio 2016

Germany 2006

South Africa 2010

Brazil 2014

Russia 2018

Exactly! The font, as for the logo, is very simple. Too simple...
