On my upcoming trip to Germany this September it looks like I will have a couple of days in Munich. Outside of the Altstadt/Lehel area, what area would have the best concentration of prewar architecture? I've been reading about Schwabing, Maxvorstadt, Haidhausen, Bogenhausen etc. For sure I want to wander around the Villa section of Bogenhausen, but would like to check out at least one more area.

A pretty cool map of Berlin in 1928 and 2015 that lets you slide between the two moments in time to see exactly how the city has changed.

Staying on that theme, here is a map of the entirety of Germany in pretty sold detail from 1895. You can also switch to modern maps like Google Maps for comparison. You can't zoom out very far with the old map, though.

Absolutely! And always great to see "my street" depicting the prototype Bäder architecture style, being a perfect harmonious ensemble of resort mansions.

Everyone should check out the islands of Usedom and Rügen when visiting Germany! It's so different from almost everything else in the country, you gotta see it.

There is something so awe-inspiring about port structures, cranes etc, massive scale and a kind of utilitarian beauty.
