No idea.

It would look better lower, possibly cheaper to construct?, maybe, who knows.

Those are nearly the same heights as before. Very big difference to shock of this morning.

Old:
- Shangri-La: 257.04 RL
- Sapphire: 250.004m RL

New:
- Shangri-La: 256.7m RL
- Sapphire: 243.8m RL

Shangri-La is basically unchanged, Sapphire has lost 6m.

CTBUH official heights:

- Shangri-La: 256.7m - 25.1 = 231.6m (rounds to 232m)
- Sapphire: 243.8m - 29.5 = 214.3m (rounds to 214m)

Note, Rialto is 253m RL, so Shangri-La will be taller than Rialto on the skyline, and pretty much the same height as Swanston Central.

Please let this be the end

Thanks Culwulla.

P.S. Can you ask Cox Architecture what the height of Wesley Place is? That one must be taller than 148m since it is now 2 levels higher than before.

so heights are RL256.7m & RL243.8m, thus 231.6m (61 lev) & 214.3m (59 lev)

the skybridge now has changed, 2levels for Shangi la and 1 level for sapphire

You are forgiven my friend.

So basically the train tunnels below, (according to the bloke I spoke to on site last week ) was correct, they have no bearing whatsoever on the overall heights..

i had a feeling when she told me they were heights above ground which is really unusual but if you saw plan it has both heights labelled and doesn’t say rl, which is weird,
anyway

im glad I was in a different timezone for this saga.

I woke up to crushing disappointment thinking - "well that just took one of the best designs in town, burnt it to the ground and pissed on its ashes" - but that lifted and I was able to breathe again once I clicked to the next page.

Can't imagine how disappointed the rest of you guys were having that play out in real time!

To hell and back in one day!

Villain from up north rides into town on his trusty steed, shoots everyone dead, leaving rotting corpses littering the landscape....

Rides off under the midday sun and then unexpectedly returns to say...

Sorry guys, ‘Only joking’ as he guffaws all the way back back home, riding off into the setting sun......

He’ll get his comeuppance one day...

Crown Sydney just might get a chop!

thank god for your diagrams but let's ask the real question here, how does (whoever you asked to involve with the project) not know the difference...

Hoo-ray, no hat for Sapphire. I am so happy about that.

Height drama is all over, we got there in the end, and most importantly this will have enough height to be a significant addition to the Melbourne skyline, and it is now under construction.

I much prefer the bigger difference in height between the towers and the way this is mirrored in the skybridge

And now I have to go back and apologise to my source for screaming at him that he was wrong...his heights a bit off but he did guarantee me they'd def both be over 200m.
All good though....

I would much prefer they were exactly the same.

But I also agree that this height difference would look better than a smaller difference (as weird as it sounds).

This will be an outstanding development. Hopefully Cox incorporates some cool night lighting like they did at Conservatory.
