Great stuff, thanks for taking and posting these!

This street is pretty dead, so hopefully this will bring some life to it.

I like what they have done with the frontage here. So often you see old post war tower blocks with no frontage to the street. This doesn't fall into that trap.

Given the cores are clearly just a fraction of the total massing when the steels start to go up this will be an absolute beast! This will probably be one of the largest and most visible buildings in the city centre, and I still believe they have an option to add an extra tower depending on market demand (?)

Surrounding sites may well come forward for redevelopment now.

I wonder if recent tragic events will cause any change or disruption for any of these projects?

I suppose its a massive "wait and see".

Hopefully the recent student projects in Coventry are fine and the proposed ones will be built from the correct materials anyway. Coventry University seem quite 'on it' so I suspect they will check all accommodation that students live in. Whilst the companies who own the blocks are of course separate from the university, when I was at the uni their accommodation services allowed the private rental companies to advertise, so I guess their standards would be checked to allow that.

The older resi blocks which have been refurbished in Coventry might be affected though.

On Midlands Today in the aftermath of the tragedy I think they had a chap from Whitefriars say the recent refurb/reclad work on their tower blocks in Coventry used fire-resistant cladding.

Its absolutely enormous! The first picture shows how much its already changed the "feel" of the area.

These student developments don't half fly up! Its almost as if they're a licence to print money!

This will create some serious over-shadowing. Maybe even kick up winds on a blustery day. Not complaining about that though, its a sign of Coventry moving away from its large town feel to becoming more of a 'proper' city. Can't wait to see the street and its surrounds come to life, again like a 'proper' city should be like.

In the Pevsner Warwickshire volume, he considers some pre-war buildings in the city centre as 'looking comical' due to the difference between their height (2 floors) and the new 'city scale' buildings nearby (Owen Owen/Broadgate.) and mentions that is shows the 'small market town' origins of Coventry (Which it still was in the late 19th/early 20th century.)

I agree. The city centre has too many streets of haphazard, two or single story buildings and very little city feel.

One thing does strike me looking at some of the recent renderings of the new stuff at Belgrade Plaza is how 'American' it looks. I once read a book about the reconstructions of Coventry written by a US academic who commented that 'downtown' Coventry looks similar to downtown in many US cities.

I guess we're seeing a lot of these small buildings (Some of which were central industrial buildings and had no real style) go. We're also seeing some post-war stuff preserved.

I think this is new era for Coventry...
