PNR asks for feasibility of Cabanatuan-Makati line

MANILA -- The Philippine National Railways (PNR) has requested the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) for a feasibility study on the planned Cabanatuan-Makati Line or the northeast commuter line, as part of the process for getting the final nod on the project, aimed at improving transportation in the Greater Capital Region (GCR).

The GCR covers the National Capital Region (NCR), Region 3 (Central Luzon) and Region 4-A (Calabarzon), which accounts for one-third of the country’s total population and provides major contribution to domestic output.

this will be very costly, mukhang maraming informal settler sa ROW and the old cabanatuan station looks like its been converted into a barangay hall or something (according to google maps)

so is this like the NSCR (elevated suburban rail)? or like current PNR metro commuter?

I believe that this line will be the first phase of PNR North Long Haul via land grade which aims to connect passenger and cargo traffic between Cabanatuan and Manila and Subic Clark Cargo Line. Remember there was already provision for freight train track that was designed by JICA to run along side with NSCR Clark. . This will be the counterpart of PNR South Long Haul. While that of Tarlac according to the master plan of Metro Manila, Commutet Line will be extended as far as Tarlac and Dagupan in the North and Batangas in the south. In my opinion Commuter Line is the equivalent of Inter City Express and Long Haul is Inter Regional Express. Only ours is separated rather than mix as that of Malaysia KTM Electrfied Double Track and other countries.

May press briefing today ang PNR and DOTr at nabanggit na itong Cabanatuan Makati line ay tinatawag ngayon na North East Commuter Line, question saan dadaan ang right of way nito?

Probably will still utilize the defunct PNR MLN Balagtas to Cabanatuan branch line, though clearing will be messy as with ROW acquisition.

One can still see remnants of the old line in N.E.

Per this site Cabanatuan Line made its inaugural run on March 15, 1969 and used to ran from Calamba to Batangas.

I think Cabanatuan is a strategic place if they intend to come up with railway line catering to Cagayan Valley, then another line perhaps to Aurora and Quezon.
