Good news about Hotel Indigo. That'll be two 4* hotels in the city centre won't it with the Telegraph as well...

Believe so, although the Ramada is listed as a 4-star hotel also.

The Chester hotel is five floors maximum and 75 beds. It would appear similar footprint to friargate site. The planned 100 beds would suggest probably 6 floors maximum.

My first thought was how can they fill a substantial tower block. It appears they won’t. The original plans had hotel earmarked as the third building along next to the station. I guess plan was to have gradual increase of heights.

Don’t get me wrong pleased they have hotel but will be a shame if this ends up as low level building. Especially as it’s plot next to ring road where there should be the tallest buildings.

I guess it depends if the building footprint matches the footprint of the plot, or perhaps the plot will be split. There might also, for example, be external areas for the the bars and restaurants. Will be interesting to see the plans. I agree though, I think this needs to be at least 10 storeys high, preferably higher.

Earlier this year they opened a new hotel nextdoor to Manchester Victoria station. It's part new build cylindrical tower part conversion of a 4 storey building. 13 rooms per floor and the tower is 14 storeys. You'd think they'd have a floor for some meeting and conference rooms given its location and another for bars and restaurants.

Thanks for posting that Chester design. Its probably a pretty accurate depiction of what Coventry's will look like as it reminds me of Friargate 1 in terms of design detail and materials. I imagine Coventry's Indigo will have quite a big foyer like Friargate 1 has, which may bump up the height a bit.

I think with Friargate is that it is now dwarfed by the numerous student flats. When Friargate 1 went up it was in keeping with the other buildings around there. I hope at the very least it'll be roughly the same height as F1. I assume that site has been chosen as it'll frame the route into the city centre at least and even if nothing else goes up they could style it out a bit with some landscaping.

Does anyone know what's going on with the tyre place near the arches around Spon End? It's being torn down. I thought it might have had a fire a few months ago.

There was an application submitted to rebuild it a few weeks ago

Good to see they are now looking at alternative uses instead of just more shops.

Demolition on Harper Rd. There is already building activity at the other end of the road so I'm not sure which what will actually be built on either site.

Slowly getting shorter.

There is a void under the remaining building on stilts which may explain why this part of the demo is taking a litter longer.

Its likely that with the new MSCP we will get further announcements on Cathedral Lanes i.e. creating the new units on the side elevation. Reminds me of Leicesters restaurant quarter where you can park up and be a few minutes walk from most of their key restaurants.

I am glad they are re-iterating their timescales. Shearer Group has invested alot of time, effort and money into Coventry (Cathedral Lanes and Upper Precinct) so I don't think they will let CCS go stagnant like previous efforts did.
