these pictures are really so beautiful. It think it really speaks to the fact that man reserves his creative skills for his Creator....it drives home the idea that man is a spiritual being. I always enjoy viewing religious masterpieces...

having said that, can someone tell me the significance of the dome seen so often in Islamic constuction?

I also applaud this thread.
Some lagre mosques, i believe, are designed to signify the power and glory of god. The outside of these mosques is nothing compared to the inside which have had millions of $$s woth of decor anf finishings. When you enter them, they're supposed to make you feel like you are powerless compared to Allah.
Anyways most people don't know that. Theyre to busy calling muslims terrorists to recognize that Islam has changed the face of our planet archetucturaly, culturaly, economicaly, and every single aspect of civilization today.

Kapitan Keling Mosque

The Acheen Street Mosque in Georgetown, Penang; also known as Masjid Melayu Lebuh Acheh (Malay Mosque) was founded by Tengku Syed Hussain Al-Aidid in 1808

Roof of the state mosque, very nice architecture. Some people in Penang call it "the big onion

Sultan Ahmad Mosque - A prominent landmark and a focal point of Kuantan, Pahang, Malaysia. Features four tall minarets. A clinic ran by the state baitulmal is also in it's compound.

Well..that does not make any different right? . Yang Dipertuan Agong will reside in Putrajaya..hence unofficially it will be the place to live replacing Istana Negara. Not replacing Istana Negara mean the current one will be left like that, empty and only be use for protocal ceremony.

so can no one tell me the religious significance of the dome on mosques? I think the minarets stand for the Pillars of Islam...but I'm stumbling at the dome.....also, pardon my ignorance, but would like to know the religious meaning behind the 'moon' or symbol too.....I hope I do not offend!

Masjid Jamek Muar, built in 1925.

Across the Muar river, Masjid Jamek Kedua Muar...mirror to 1st masjid.Built in 2000.

in bosnia we dont have so many grand mosques like u have here, but friendly malaysia is buidling malaysia style mosques in our country

A gift by the British to the Selangor Sultan
