check out the 'official coventry thread 3' opening post and you'll see the original proposals in there.

Or hey, go straight to the source and look at the University's website!

I had a letter through the post this week asking me if, as a local resident, I object to the University's application for planning permission in respect of the Gulson Road Engineering building.

What a waste of tax payer's money if they do this for every household within a certain radius! Can't they just rely on signs on the actual plot itself as well as lamp posts, local community centres/shops etc?

I'd quite welcome the scheme personally. I'm hoping that a hive of university activity in the area will lead to an increased range of shops and amenities as well as help push up house prices, once the climate picks up of course.

Part of the Gulson Rd hospital site has now been demolished.

I reckon these two will start as soon as permission is granted...

Maybe Gosford Street/Jordan Well will be a proper street again.

agree. the jordan well proposals already have already been recommended for approval. both of these projects are going to happen very quickly i feel.

i really like the gulson road proposals but as for jordan well i'm not so sure. i worry that it's going to look cheap and tacky. the whole of the 10 year university masterplan is said to be costing 160 million, but for what they are proposing that seems incredibly low, especially when you consider that belgrade plaza alone is costing 140 million. we shall see.

I think that figure is for current activity. These two buildings and the technology park buildings.

looking again at the uni website, it appears that the 160 million is total investment over the next 5 years. this most definitely covers the things you've mentioned, plus the car park and if their '5 year plan' is to be believed quite a lot else.

...actually, it actually states further on in the development forum presentation that this investment is over 10 years. so i guess not even they know for sure. hopefully my fears will prove unfounded, but their track record is not exactly the best!

Things are moving quickly on the Gulson Rd site. All the rubble has been cleared.

I think this will start pretty quickly, as I'd imagine Cov Uni already has funding in place.

The previous new-build (which is almost finished now) looks great from the carpark entrance - it's a little more plain as it faces Mile Lane however. Still good to have buildings going up on these previously vacant plots of land though... especially in the case of the flats on the opposite side of the road.

Maybe the whole city centre should just become a Uni Campus - and the city centre could be moved to Spon End - Albany Road/Earlsdon Street could be the new high street and a huge shopping mall could be built on Spencer Park.

[I am joking]
