RM20mil theme park in Malacca

DUBAI: Malacca is set to start work on a RM20mil theme park in Ayer Keroh covering 28ha, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam, said.

To be sited near the Malacca International Trade Centre, the theme park was part of the state’s drive to expand its tourism facilities and create sound tourism infrastructure, he said. Work on the project will start in two months.

Early this month, Bank Pembangunan approved a financing deal for the project, which is being developed by a local company, Agib Engineering Construction.

“Tourism is steadily growing in Malacca and we will like to see it overtaking the industrial sector as the single largest contributor to the state’s gross domestic product by 2010,” he told Bernama.

Malacca hopes to achieve “developed” status by 2010, before the same goal is realised for the whole of Malaysia under Vision 2020.

The state has set a target of four million tourists this year. Last year, it received 3.6 million tourists, of whom some 40% were foreigners.

It hoped to attract seven million tourists a year by 2010, said Ali, who was in the United Arab Emirates to promote the state as a tourist destination.

“Besides making Malacca a complete family holiday destination, we are also looking at attracting people interested in recreation, health, sports and environment,” he said.

Malacca was planning to introduce night safaris at its zoo in about two months, he added.

Under a two-phase plan, the state is spending up to RM200mil to develop a 5km stretch of the Malacca River for tourism. The first phase was 60% completed, Ali said.

The works include a river cleanup, building embankments and building pedestrian walkways, and creating a centralised sewerage.

A host of tourism facilities like restaurants, communication facilities, water taxis and shopping centres are also being developed. – Bernama

Agarta Theme Park

Since a few years there is this website of a company claiming that they will construct a giant theme-park in Malaysia, but in reality there seems little or no progress. Is there anyone who knows something about this project... ?

Plan for region's 1st digital theme park in Sabah

Plan for region's 1st digital theme park in Sabah
By Julia Chan
[email protected]

February 5 2007

PLANS are afoot to develop possibly South-East Asia's first digital theme park in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, which will be a boon to the state's developing technology and tourism industries.

The proposed project, a ubiquitous digital theme park, will be integrated into the up-and-coming Harbour City shopping centre and will feature all kinds of digital and interactive games and devices embedded into the building.

South Korea's Cuzco Corp president and chief executive officer (CEO) Kwang Lee is currently in discussion with Evermaster Group Bhd CEO Eliza Goh on the feasibility of the digital theme park project.

The Evermaster Group's construction arm, Evermaster Development Sdn Bhd, is building the Harbour City commercial development.

"We think that it is an ideal location for the project as we have a good target market here (Kota Kinabalu). South Korea have proven to be a receptive market and there are a lot of South Koreans who come here for a holiday," said Lee.

"Japan and Taiwan are also good markets for our project, and of course, locals and other tourists, and it is definitely an unique product with a lot of potential," he added.

The digitalized theme park concept will have a lot of interactive games, virtual reality and simulators which can be enjoyed by whole families.

"It is different from a conventional theme park in the sense that it takes up less space but is more comprehensive and also efficient," he said.

Lee declined to reveal how much investment would be needed for the project if it goes ahead.

The Harbour City project is being developed in phases and once completed in 10 years, will span over 10ha and cost some RM3.5 billion. Phase I is expected to be completed by next year.

Goh said it was the right time to introduce such state- of-the-art technology to the city and "our aim is to increase the quality of life in Kota Kinabalu.

"We also want to introduce something new and different to the people," she added.

Cuzco is no stranger to digital entertainment being the developer of MGM Studio City in South Korea, a US$1 billion (RM3.53 billion) project which will be completed in 2010.

World First Gay Theme Park in Malaysia

is this for real......

http://www.utopia-asia.com/unews/art..._01_000000.htm
Plans to open Tongziland, the world's first homosexual theme park, have been given a green light by Malaysian authorities. Scheduled to open in 2009, the adults-only amusement park will rise in Johor Bahru, in view of neighboring Singapore.
Spokesmen Tang En Chee of Same Joy PTE, Ltd., the Malaysian/Hong Kong joint venture which is funding the project, says that government licensing has been granted to transform a 120,000 square meter area of landfill into a full-featured, world-class recreation and entertainment tourist attraction. Local businesses hope the park will attract the lucrative pink dollar from affluent gay travelers from the around the region and Australia.

Malaysian tourism spokesman, Datuk Ibrahim Ali, citing the success of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras which has become Australia's leading tourist attraction, said "We are excited and already planning to offer a special shuttle service from Singapore for tourists who would enjoy spending the day at the gay park and an evening or two in our gay-friendly hotels here in Johor Bahru."

Organizers have been working closely with the government to revise Malaysia's colonial-era anti-sodomy laws to permit homosexual social interaction within the park's boundaries. A Health Ministry "Safer Sex Tourism Kit" with map of Malaysia's other gay attractions will be developed to emphasize that the nation has "a lot more than just a gay theme park" to offer homosexuals on a daily basis.

Preliminary designs for the park call for an authentic Chinese dynastic palace throne room populated by animatronic figures of famous gay Emperors and their favorites, a branch of Osaka's Takarazaku all-female theatrical extravaganza, a Thai-themed sports complex with transgender kick-boxing arena and Iron Ladies volleyball court, Cinderfella's Enchanted Castle sauna, an Old West themed Lesbian Round-up, and the 10-story tall Tower of Pride with rotating disco and high-powered lasers.

S. M. Lee, a local hawker operating across from the planned construction site has already hung up a sign advertising "chicken gay pot" on his vendor stand. "Lesbian laksa lemak also got!" added Madame Lee.
