Thank you for posting those. Here's hoping it won't turn out as cheap as the renderings suggest. I also hope they've revised the childish colour scheme.

Probably one of the best buildings In Middlesbrough that, and it could be over-shadowed by this, it may be only 6 floors, but it could be twice the height of anything else around it.

Looks like the colour scheme has been toned down a bit, you can see some renders on the official page on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fb...61334517233958

Doesn't actually look too bad at night.

I'm guessing this is planned to be completed for next September, for the beginning of the next University year.

Didn't spot those renders, Bob. You know a project is going to turn into a disappointment when all its official renderings show it in the dark. I hope I can be proved wrong about this one.

The official website for this build can be found here.

It's looking pretty cool. Glad to see buildings like this going up in 'Boro. It may seem a bit odd, weird, out of place now, but when the town or city (finger's crossed) is full of them, people won't be so quick to judge.

Does anyone know what the shops are going to be in it? I need one, probably in retail. I've heard there are going to be 6 or 8 retail units on the ground floor, only one a clothing shop and no restaurants or take-aways (that'll be a first for Linny). It begs the question what else are they going to put there?

I go passed every Friday and it does take your breath away over just how big it is. All they need to do now is knock down that dreadful Linthorpe Beds/Riley's building and replace it with somet equally ambitious and we're on to something.

I know what you mean,I went past the other day and couldnt believe how imposing it looks, certainly big for this part of Linthorpe Road.
Ive heard Weatherspoons have taken over the pub across the road (the old Empire pub) and are to develop it.
Could be the start of a bit of investment down this bit of Linthorpe Road

Ah, you can't beat The Rock Garden. She may be gone but she will never be forgotten.

Regarding Linthorpe Hall 248, you have to bear in mind that the average floor height is about 8 feet tall, and the ground floor, because it'll have shops or whatever on it, will be about 10 feet tall.

Last I saw it was up to its sixth floor and it STILL has another two to go. When you consider the roof is curved and those coloured wafer panels on the sides will go above that curved roof, it will be the equivalent of 9 stories tall. To put that in comparison, Middlesbrough College is 5 stories tall and CIAC next to it is up to its 10 or 12th floor (you can't really tell).

Teesside Uni are running out of apartments and this will provide another 240 odd rooms (I think that's what the 248 stands for, the address will be something like 35 Linthorpe Road, basing it on the fact that the Co-Operative buildings next to it are around 30 in their address on the front of the building).

Consider that in 2005 by 2025 they wanted five or more 30-story apartment blocks, and you really have to wonder how short on apartments they are. Obviously, the council that hates tall buildings rejected them and now T-Uni is out of apartments for the foreseeable future, although we are all waiting to see if the 45-55 story old Odeon site skyscraper will ever be built. The council aren't sure. And it's hideous. So hopefully it won't be built.

I am a massive supporter of T-Uni and all the hard work they put into fantastic courses and what I maintain is the best modern uni in the country. I don't go there or to any uni but I've been in it on several occasions and it's like a palace. Every building has a café, a lounge will flat screen tellies, first aid centres, internet café's, the latest equipment, fantastic resources, and brilliant lecturers and teachers. They've built 10 buildings including apartments since 2,000, and there are rumours they are going to build another five by 2025. Where I don't know, but 248 is one of them, and you've got to admit, when they build new buildings for the uni, they really get the best architects. They're doing us proud, and when you think that T-Uni is full of students from every corner of the globe, that's a great message those students are taking back to their countries: brilliant uni, brilliant architecture.

The housing and apartments in this town or city (fingers crossed) are getting better, and with St. Hilda's due for complete demolition by the end of 2011, eradicating the housing estate with the lowest life expectancy of anywhere in the UK (just 48, believe it or not), things are looking up for us.

Is this thing ever going to stop growing?

Equivalent of 9 stories, I mean I'm excited because it's a statement the council is serious about its push for modernization, but this a massive statement of intent.

Can't wait.
