I really hope this dream comes true... I have not seen Sabarmati before makeover as well as not seen Tapi or Vishwamitri, but if there is a competition for the dirtiest river, it will be Aji in 1st place..

Whenever I used to cross Aji river bridge, have always hoped that someday we would have a riverfront like Ahmdb.. hope govt takes step first to clean whatever is left there and then improve it along the lines of Sabarmati..

SPV to be set up for Aji Riverfront development project

Quote:
A special purpose vehicle is being set up for development of river Aji and its adjoining area.

This was stated by Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) commissioner Ajay Bhadoo at the first meeting of the governing council set up for development of Aji. The meeting was held in the presence of minister of state for environment Govind Patel.

A power point presentation was made before the council that was constituted by RMC recently to oversee the planning and implementation of the development plan for the river.

RMC officials claimed that they have prepared short term and long term plans for the purpose.

"The short term plan to be implemented till 2015 envisages demarcation of river boundary by district inspector of land record (DILR), removing the construction debris from river bed, prevention of more sewage flow into the river, clearing encroachments and handing over the possession of river area to the RMC,'' Bhadoo said.

He said RMC will take steps to stop all the anti-social activities that are harming the river. He said RMC would appoint a consultant to study the river hydrology and decide what form of development should be taken up along its banks.

Five water retaining structures across river Aji are to be constructed as the river is non-perennial and water flow is witnessed only during the monsoon. Developing a river front like Ahmedabad and providing recreational space is also on the cards.

RMC officials said a new sewage line parallel to the river will be laid down to stop the sewage water going into the river.

TOI had recently had run a series 'My City My River' and highlighted how sacred Aji has been reduced to a filthy drain where sewage is being dumped in its nine kilometre stretch within the city. The campaign had shown how 15 million to 20 million litres of untreated sewage is let into the Aji every day because of inadequate infrastructure.

The river's banks are lined with encroachments that have reduced the river's width from 253 metres to a mere 158 metres in the city.

Rajkot Bus Terminal pictures viral on WhatsApp! GSRTCís swanky new bus stop model gives a tough fight to foreign airports

Source
Quote:
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of an iconic modern bus terminal at Bharuch in March, also built on PPP model at the cost of Rs.92.67-crore.

The pictures in front of you are not of Londonís Heathrow Airport, Singapore Changi Airport or any other foreign establishments. The images going crazy viral on WhatsApp and social media are that of Gujaratís Rajkot Bus Terminal. Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) is all set to build a swanky interstate bus stop in Rajkot at the cost of whopping Rs 154 crore. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani laid the foundation stone for the new bus stand in Rajkot. These pictures are an artistís impression of the lavish Rajkot Bus Station and have taken the internet by storm. The facilities of new Rajkot bus stop will be same as that of international airports.

We are used to being wide-eyed on seeing extravagant buildings and structures designed in the Western countries. But when the photos of Rajkotís new bus terminal surfaced on the internet, it took the countrymenís breath away. Under PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model, Rajkot new bus stand will be built, and it will cost Rs 154.12 crore. During the construction phase, buses will be parked at Shastri ground, Greenland chowkdi and at open ground of RMC at Vavdi on Gondal road.

Rajkot New Bus Stand building will be of eight floors, with 20 buses to be parked together on the ground floor apart from the underground parking. The State Government is adding CCTV surveillance cameras and GPS for the security and safety checks. The new bus port will also be lined with TV sets for the entertainment of the waiting passengers. Airport style sign boards and other public amenities will be present.

Rajkot Bus station will be built over 11,000 square meter area. The first floor of the new bus stop will have facilities for the commuters while other seven floors will have around 100 shops, offices, hotels, restaurant, theatre and more. Gujarat state government is renovating bus stands for the modern ones in a total of 10 cities.

Ten new and modern district level bus terminals to be built at Amreli, Bhuj, Junagadh, Rajkot, Nadiad, Navsari, Modasa, Patan and Palanpur at the cost of Rs.913.30-crore with facilities for commercial activities.

GSRTC has decided to put 1600 new buses at a cost of Rs 410 crore on the road. This decision has been taken in the interest of inhabitants living in the interior areas of the state and will eventually benefit more than 83,000 people.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of an iconic modern bus terminal at Bharuch in March, also built on PPP model at the cost of Rs.92.67-crore. The vision to give facelift the existing bus terminals in the state was that of PM Modi when he was the Chief Minister. The government has already built six such bus terminals Ė two in Ahmedabad at Gita Mandir and Ranip, two in Vadodara at Central and Makarpura, at Surat and Mehsana.

The design looks nicer than Geeta Mandir bus station. Well done to the govt though. Some of the new bus stations coming up look great.

Rajkot for its size is a bigger hub for buses than Ahmedabad I think. Due to its strategic location it acts as the centroid of Saurashtra. And Saurashtra is not as well connected by rail as Central Gujarat so people prefer buses.

Why everything in english. Why is gujarati not given any place anywhere? Progress is good, but Indian languages must be given first preference. Go to south, eveything is in south language first then if they feel they will put english. Not good here just putting out english to look modern.

I dont think Gujarat has this issue. Even in the bigger cities you will find most things labeled in both English and Gujarati. The smaller shops and stores still have signboards only in Gujarati.
