Came across some construction off Katol Road near Gorewada Lake. Does anyone know if this is going to be where the bio park/night safari thing is supposed to come up?

5 Chain Of Restaurants That Are Coming To Nagpur According To Our Gossip Birdie!

If you think Miss Malini is the only one in business to have her little gossip birdies giving her inside scoops, then we might just prove you wrong. We at Reacho 'reached' (pun intended) out to our flock of birds and asked them to chirp us some hush-hush news about the food scenes in Nagpur. And much to our surprise, we found out that not one but a good number of 5 chain of restaurants have chosen Nagpur as there next destination for their expansion! Damn straight.

Attracted by the growing size of millennials and the middle class bracket, many big brands of restaurants are now looking at Nagpur seriously. The last 2 years saw chains such as Keventers, London Bubble Co. Belgian Waffle, Kailash Parbat, etc. making its way here. Following the footsteps are some more brands (which we will reveal in the following list) that are looking forward to tap into the potential market of the city. So let's take a look and make a note of which are the restaurants that will padharo mhaare des!

Here's the list of 5 restaurants - *drumrolls*

1) McDonald's

Okay, who are we kidding if we said we aren't so much looking forward for this one! We have been achingly waiting for McD since years now. After being teased endlessly for not having an outlet in the city, (Even Vir Das couldn’t help but make a joke out of it!) we totally deserve this particular chain of restaurant. We are sure the opening day of McD would look something like a mini Kumbh Mela! But right now, the thought of their crispiest French fries and a towering Maharaja Mac has got us slurping already! And yes, a McSwirl to end the meal with!

Location: Trillium Mall – Rambagh Layout, Unthkhana.

2) Agent Jacks Bar

Imagine walking into an upscale bar and getting to negotiate prices of your drink? Yup, that’s what Agent jack’s Bar is all about. One has to select any drink of their choice and quote their offer price on the app. The app’s bot or Agent Jack as we all shall know him, will reply with counter-offers. If you’re good with your skills, you might end up getting a drink of Rs. 200 for mere Rs. 80. Nope, not joking! Btw, even though a bot, Agent Jack’s replies are of the slapstick humor genre! So bring your A-game when you walk in! Oh btw, do try their Locho naan and Kheema pav while you sip your dranks!

Location: Trillium Mall – Rambagh Layout, Unthkhana

3) B Bhagat Tarachand

halis are synonymous with the B Bhagat Tarachand chain of restaurants. Started years ago at Mumbai’s tiny Zaveri Bazaar, the restaurant today is world-famous for its homely meal of a well-round thali. Many may wonder what is so fancy about the thalis. Well, nothing. And that is USP of this place. A no-frills thali which serves 3 special roti, veg sabzi, paneer sabzi, dal fry, rice/pulao, papad, chhaas and sweet is as basic as it can get. But it’s the taste that does all the talking and gets the tongues drooling. And hey, if you can’t thali, you can always go grab their Aloo parantha and Lassi combo which the Zaveri Bazaar traders swear by!

Location: Still a secret. Sigh!

4) The Yellow Chilli

This one is chain of restaurants that was started by legendary master chef and Padma Shri awardee Sanjeev Kapoor in the year 2001. From watching him cook on Zee TV to having his handpicked recipes dished out to you on your table, Kapoor has sure come a long way. With more than 50 outlets spread across India and abroad, it is now time that Nagpur get their share of this restaurant which brings together eccentricity, authenticity and diversity. Well, we don’t know about you but we sure are going to hog onto their ulte tawe ki galouti, tawa chaap and mutton biryani when the restro opens its doors!

Location: Trillium Mall – Rambagh Layout, Unthkhana

5) The Bar Stock Exchange

When Edward Calahan invented the stock market ticker, he definitely did not think it would be used in the waterholes someday. Come to TBSE a.k.a The Bar Stock Exchange and you will be met with LED tickers that display the minute-to-minute prices of the alcohol available in the house! As a commerce student I can assure that stock trading has never gotten any more interesting! So keep your trading tricks up your sleeve and make the most at this bar! P.S.: We recommend you to keep a bowl of chilli garlic peanuts and Nachos at hand as your chakhna.

Tentative location: Dharampeth

Four years on, IIM-Nagpur permanent campus work kicks off on March 6

NAGPUR: After a delay of four years, the first-phase construction of Indian Institute of Management-Nagpur’s (IIM-N) permanent campus will start from March 6. The ground-breaking ceremony, which was cancelled in December last year, would be done by Union minister Nitin Gadkari and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis at the site. The model code is likely to kick in this month and hence the process was expedited to enable the BJP heavyweights be part of the crucial event.

Taking no chances, the institute has invited a host of elected representatives and officers of MADC as well. The inaugural ceremony had courted controversy when the invitation cards missed Gadkari’s name though he was instrumental in bringing the top B-school to city in 2015.

The Central government had sanctioned Rs379.68 crore last year for the first phase. The prestigious academy, running from a temporary campus at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), has drawn up a Rs650crore plan for constructing its much-delayed permanent facility in three-phases on the 132-acre sprawling land at Dahegaon Mouza.

In the first phase, approximately 14.8 acre (60,000 sq m) would be developed by a Delhi-based private firm. Phase-I includes state-of-the-art academic complex, administrative block, students hostel, sports complex and faculty housing at the cost of Rs379 crore. The first phase is designed to accommodate 600 students, which means, the intake would be hiked from 120 now when the campus shifts. The institute has set 2020 as its deadline to move out from VNIT.

The sprawling campus will also house discussion spaces, recreation spaces consisting of the gym, open spaces, in later phases.

The campus will also house a management development centre for the institute’s executive education programme (EEP) and its entrepreneurship incubation centre, InFED, in environmental sustainability. It is expected that the construction for Phase-I will be completed in 18 months.

Established in 2015, two batches of its flagship programme post graduate programme in Management (PGP in MBA) have passed out and the shift from VNIT to MIHAN may not be before another two batches. Earlier, it was expected to move out by 2019.

The placement process for the third batch, set to graduate in 2019, is underway. The convocation is likely to be held in mid-April.

PM Narendra Modi to flag off Nagpur Metro on March 7

NAGPUR: The wait of Nagpurians for using the Metro as another means of transportation is set to be over. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 13-km Sitabuldi-Khapri section of Reach 1 on Thursday at 5pm through video conferencing from New Delhi. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and union transport minister Nitin Gadkari will then flag off the first train from Sitabuldi station.

Nagpur will become the tenth city in India to have a Metro and the second in state. The at grade section of the project had become operational in April 2018 but MahaMetro did not go for commercial operations. It was only used for joyrides.

As commissioner of metro rail safety (CMRS) could not inspect the Lokmanya Nagar to Subhash Nagar stretch of Reach 3 on Sunday due to paucity of time it will not become operational as planned by MahaMetro.

The CMRS is expected to visit Nagpur again only after the election dates are announced, which is expected to be a made in a few days. As in the case of one line of Delhi Metro, the opening of Reach 3 is expected to be an apolitical affair as the code of conducts prevents MPs and MLAs from participating in public events.

A Metro official said that the certificate issued by Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO) would be getting the Railway Board’s approval on Tuesday afternoon. “Our team has already gone to Delhi with the certificate. Another team will camp at CMRS office in Mumbai. As soon as we get Railway Board’s stamp on the certificate, we will mail it to CMRS and get the authorization certificate from it,” he added.

The at grade section of Nagpur Metro was the fastest in India to become operational. A stretch of 5.5 kilometre had become operational in 30 months after construction work started. If commercial operations are considered, Lucknow Metro was the fastest off the block — a 8.5km stretch had become operational in 36 months. The 13km stretch of Nagpur Metro would have achieved this feat in 41 months, which is the second fastest.

The MahaMetro official said that commercial operations would have started three to four months ago had the agency not been asked to frequently change its plans. “As per the detailed project report (DPR) our viaduct was to be located on the road in front of Ramkrishna Mission, Dhantoli. However, we were asked to shift it through Central Jail. The double decker flyover was not part of our project but National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI’s) project was entrusted to us. Then due to opposition from residents, the location of Ujjwal Nagar railway underbridge (RUB) had to be shifted,” he added.

The Sitabuldi-Khapri stretch has 11 stations but only six stations will be operational initially — Khapri, New Airport, Airport South, Airport, Jaiprakash Nagar and Sitabuldi. Ujjwal Nagar, Chhatrapati Square, Ajni Square, Rahate Colony and Congress Nagar will become operational in phases.

Ajni inter-modal station to be ready in three years

Nagpur: The Phase I of Ajni inter-modal station (IMS) to be built by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Central Railway (CR) land will be ready in three years. The bhoomipuja of this ambitious facility was performed by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between NHAI and CR in their presence.
NHAI regional officer M Chandrashekhar told the media on the sidelines of the function that the tender for the work would be floated soon. “We will award the tender after the election code of conduct is over,” he said.

“IMS will come up on 44.4-acre land. The bus bays and ramps will require 14.4 acres, internal roads 11.4 acres and railway overbridge (ROB) approaches — eight acres. The built up area of the facility is 77,642 square metres,” said Chandrashekhar.

The cost of Phase I of the project is Rs 1,289 crore. The ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH) recently sanctioned this amount. It is part of Central government’s Bharatmala project. The project will require relocation of railway quarters, offices and other facilities at the cost of Rs69 crore.

Turning to long distance bus amenities, Chandrashekhar said, “There will be a space for parking 590 cars in the basement of the concourse building. The ground floor is reserved for arrivals. There would be 40 bus bays while 28 would be idle. There would be a waiting area for 1,600 travellers, ticket counters, toilets, cloak room, canteen and dormitories.”

The railway amenities include ticket counters, toilets, waiting room for 1,600 passengers, cloak room, VIP room, parcel office, 12 retail shops and parking for 350 cars, etc. Four more platforms will be created in the expanded Ajni station. A new ultramodern building would also be built.

The first floor is reserved for departures. The bus area will have ticket counters, toilets and waiting room for 1,600 people and 80 bus bays. The railway side will have resting room, VIP room, waiting area for 1,600 people, 10 retail shops, etc. The second floor will have ticket offices, food court, restaurant, hotels and lounge.

The concourse building will be connected to Congress Nagar Metro station by a foot overbridge (FOB). There are direct trains from this station to Airport. The IMS will thus have air connectivity too. Another FOB will link the concourse building with Ajni railway station.

Chandrashekhar said that the facility is expected to handle 3 lakh passengers per day by 2050. “It will be built with government money with a defect liability period of 10 years. A separate agency would be appointed for operating the facility. The whole area would be monitored by CCTVs. The concourse building will have murals depicting Bhagvad Geeta, Jnaneshwari, Abhijnan Shakuntalam, Panchtantras, etc,” he added.

In Phase II, 149 acres will be developed on CR land. Residential and commercial space would be created with private investment. A new six lane railway overbridge (ROB) will be build near FCI godown connecting IMS with Wardha Road ROB. The third phase includes development of Central Jail land after its relocation.

Symbiosis International (Deemed University) To Begin Classes At Nagpur Campus From July 2019

Quote:
After a plethora of companies making their way into Nagpur, it’s time for the educational institutions to make a beeline. With National Law University (NLU) already set up and fully functional, the next in line to go operational is the esteemed Symbiosis International (Deemed University) (SIU). The Pune-headquartered academy will open doors in the month of July for the upcoming academic session (2019-21). Spread across a land size of 75-acres at Wathoda, this will be SIU’s second largest campus so far.

25% of the seats will be reserved and students from the city will be given a 15% fee concession. Symbiosis will be a pioneer in providing such kind of facility at any of its campuses. This will encourage students from the city to stay back and apply for the course instead of migrating to cities like Mumbai, Pune and other in the quest of better higher education.

According to a report by an English daily, Symbiosis will be setting up the operations with three disciplines viz. Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), Symbiosis School of Law (SSL) and Symbiosis School of Planning, Architecture and Design (SSPAD). These schools will offer MBA, BArch, BBA, BBA-LLB, BALLB and LLM.
Pro-chancellor Vidya Yeravdekar said, “The teams from Bar Council India (BCI) and Council for Architecture (COA) visited the campus recently. After thorough inspection of our new building and facilities, they granted green signal for running the courses.”

“We’ve already started admissions for BBA, MBA, BALLB and BBA LLB and their classes will commence from July 1. For architecture, it will take some time as those would be based on entrance tests,” she said. Yeravdekar is also the principal director of Symbiosis Society.

Directors on officiating basis and faculties have been appointed for these three schools by the academia. According to the sources - Shrirang Altekar for SIBM, Sukvinder Badan Sing Dari for SSL and Anjali Sharma for SSPAD – are the officiating directors.

Construction of NDRF academy to start in June

Quote:
Nagpur: Construction of the Rs400 crore National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Academy near Koradi temple will finally start from June, almost seven years after the land was purchased from Maharashtra government. NDRF director general SN Pradhan, who was in the city on Thursday, confirmed that the first phase of construction will be completed by next year. “The unit in Nagpur will be one of its kind and when completed, it will be a place with world-class infrastructure where people from across the world will come to train,” said Pradhan. The 153-acre land was purchased for Rs18.6 crore in 2012 in the name of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), of which NDRF is a part. The expansive land with a couple of hillocks also has a river stream running through it. It boasts of easy access by road because of being located next to the popular Koradi temple. The long delay in proceeding with the construction was a result of different point of views regarding the use of multiple properties that came under NDRF, after it merged with National Civil Defence College (NCDC). Pradhan said, “At some point of time, there was a rethink on the plan on whether the fire college should become a combined centre for both disaster and fire management training. So, the whole thing went in one direction. It was then backtracked somewhere in 2017 and decided that let it remain separate.” Once completed, the NDRF Academy will host simulated infrastructure like no other. “We will have a village and town set up to simulate flooding conditions and the train our personnel for rescue operations. We are also looking to see how the river, passing next to our land, can be used to simulate rapid water rescue operations. High rise rescue, hilly region rescue etc will all be simulated on the academy campus,” said Pradhan. The first phase of construction will cost approximately Rs 85 crore and will be completed by next year. “You will be able to see some training courses underway. I think that in the next five years, the entire set up may be ready,” he added. About disaster response, Pradhan said that making the volunteer network strong is priority. “See, on paper I can have 12 lakh volunteers. But on how many of them can I count on when an actual disaster strikes? We need to formalize the trained volunteer system where they are also aware of their role when emergency situation arises,” said Pradhan. The NDRF is also training people and security forces for biological and chemical warfare. “That’s how the future terror attacks will be. We are already working towards meeting those challenges and are happy to have complete cooperation of all stakeholders in the central and state governments,” said Pradhan.

It seems there is a plan to open Gorewada Zoo in July (or before MH elections in Nov). Found this article on Sakal (dated 17 April 2019) :
