DBM wants to double DOTr funding for 2020
Quote:
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 20) — The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) wants to double funding for the Department of Transportation (DOTr) under the proposed ₱4.1-trillion 2020 national budget as part of the Duterte administration’s continued push for infrastructure development.
The DBM proposed a ₱147-billion budget for the DOTr, which is more than double than the ₱67.67-billion approved for the department under this year’s fiscal plan.
Rail transportation will get the largest chunk of the proposed DOTr budget, with the DBM allocating ₱106.7 billion for it. The DBM, meanwhile, wants ₱508 million for sea transport and ₱346 million for air transport.
This is part of the nearly ₱1-trillion budget which the DBM wants allocated for the administration’s ambitious Build, Build, Build program. According to President Rodrigo Duterte's budget message, big projects next year are the North-South Commuter Railway system (₱84.7 billion), the gpvernment share in the Japan-funded Metro Manila Subway (₱9.8 billion), and the rehabilitation of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (₱5.1 billion).

This could very well be the most important Budget so far in the history of DA PILIPINS. Thank goodness that Andaya is no longer around and Alan Cayetano is the speaker. Of course, our only obstacle would be the Senate but we did gain a few allies there too.

It also would be nice if we have details on that Budget so we have an idea of what stage the rail projects would be in (presumably a lot of full swing constructions now happening due to the increased size). We only knew that LRT2 Western was not forgotten in the 2018 Budget because of an article. Plus we only found out about that 95 billion php worth of covered courts and multipurpose buildings that Andaya tried to sneak in the 2019 Budget when an online media outlet posted JPEG files of Digong's line veto items...

Fact is Philippine railways were very active and successful last century before second world war. Then it deteriorated completely. It was in government hands.

Most workers are against the long proposed privatization of National Railways. What PNR needs is more funds to rehabilitate most lines, not to mention NSCR, at par with Indonesia's railway at least.

Well, they're getting more funds now. And they're a centerpiece of government's BBB.

The question though was just about the way PNR employees "serve" the commuters.

What do they need to serve the commuting, especially the taxpaying, public? The people who basically pay for their salaries? Maybe they want their pay doubled like policemen and militarymen?

PNR could just follow Japan Railways and HK MTR models to make it profitable. You don't necessarily have to privatize but make your operations efficient.

Paano naman kasi matatanggal yung GSIS nila at privilege ng isang Govt Employee kapag nasa Private na sila.

Saka mas madali na silang tanggalin.

On the positive, you have no excuse not to know a train is coming so hopefully it can help prevent some train accidents from pedestrians and drivers.

Hehehe. No train will run beyond its rails! If ever merong banggaan, tiyak kasalanan po nang ibang vehicle/persons yun. Di naman dumaan sa ibang daan ang mga train. The rails are enough to tell everyone that a train runs in the area!
