This project will proceed as planned and it will have a better, more moden and more wider alignment than the ones in Luzon. Duterte already gave a word and IT HAS TO BE DONE!

If I was born yesterday, i would believe all you're saying. Unfortunately, things do not just sprout out of the ground without people doing the required dilligence and processes. A project has to have an initial study to determine its feasibility. Guides and manuals have been provided for by lending institutions, governments and the like. Gestation periods are long.

Big project don't get easily documented, planned, estimated, approved, financed, bidded, jumpstarted, even if the country will allow this admin to serve two terms in office (12 years). The best thing for government to do right now is assign people to do the leg work. Do you have reliable information of any agency doing it now? In the construction world, there's a saying: we don't think the house will build itself, people actually do it.

The plans of involved agencies are possibly under wraps by now. The new administration is still on its first month. Let's just give it a break. The thing is why do we make this complicated by arguing that this project still has to undergo a mountain of tasks before it get realized. Unlike the previous one, the person at the helm in this country is not a complicated person. I believe he will find a way to get this going as fast as possible.

Exactly! People can take buses but the main reason for a railway in Mindanao would obviously be to transport agricultural products to the bigger cities, the ports and further into the future across country all the way to Manila. It has to become cheaper to source food locally than to import from outside the country. Just look at prices for vegetables etc., it's ridiculous. More expensive to buy local products there than in Germany products imported from places like Spain or even northern Africa. A railway would help to transfer huge loads of products on the cheap.

Very good question.
I do not call Mindanao my home, was not born there but I have my relatives; cousins who were born, lived and are still living in Mindanao. My grandfather was a former principal of an elementary school way down Maasim area, So. Cotabato. We visit there annually, when he was stlll alive (even during the war years in the 70's).

If you consider that a "long time", then yes, to answer your implied question, I knew some things about Mindanao. To tell you, there are a lot to discuss about the problems in Mindanao, including this transportation problem.

Nah, you don't assume things are being done as we speak, try to know facts. Knowing the Philippines, you can't expect too much from government. Sorry to rain on your parade but that's the cold fact. It's better not to expect too much that to feel disappointed in the end. That's life.

In an interview last week, SMIC chief finance officer Jose Sio said the SM group was interested in the Mindanao railway project either by providing funding through banking arm BDO Unibank or taking equity as part of SMIC’s investment portfolio.

I like railways, but Mindanao has more important things to borrow billions to fund this project.

The DOTr has recently issued the clarification a bout standard gauge railways. They choose SGR because of its speed capacity IN EXCESS OF 160kph. Means to say that any future intercity rail projects will be designed to meet this limitation and to maximize the potential of raolways on bringing best service to the riding public.

Narrow gauge for record has speed limitations of up to 160kph. Mostly 130kph in Japan. In Malaysia they operate up to 160kph likewise QR but on level free tracks and wider ROW and curve radius.

Need to amend to 60-40 rule for these experienced daang bakal companies to enter the Pinas.

And with our notoriously red tape, bukol/tongpats and the arbitrarily changing the rules midstream, this is going to be a leap of faith.

DB Germany will certainly remember Fraport/PIATCO disaster that is NAIA3.
