Rais: Proposal to corporatise RTM submitted to National Economic Council
Published: Monday May 23, 2011 MYT 5:03:00 PM
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp...422&sec=nation

KUALA LUMPUR: Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) is to be corporatised, with a section of its service probably privatised, to make the official broadcasting station more efficient and competitive, Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said Monday.

He said the proposal, for RTM's restructuring ahead of full digital broadcasting by 2015, had been submitted to the National Economic Council.

"As a leading broadcasting station in the country, RTM should undergo a metamorphosis or change to make it more competent in discharging its duty to the nation while satisfying its viewers, the people," he said.

Dr Rais spoke to reporters after opening the RTM Transformation Retreat at the Cendekiawan Hall of the Tun Abdul Razak Institute of Broadcasting and Information at Angkasapuri, here.

The two-day retreat is aimed at identifying more effective measures to re-engineer content and determine better marketing and promotion methods to raise programme ratings and revenue.

Dr Rais said RTM would work with other broadcasting bodies, such as the Media Prima network and Astro, to raise reporting productivity as well as the country's broadcasting industry to match the foreign media.

He said the effort would fully benefit the 4,900-strong RTM workforce.

The minister said RTM staff should not be overly concerned about their positions when the station was corporatised because the government would ensure a win-win situation.

"Most importantly, RTM must be corporatised to become more efficient," he said. - Bernama
Work to redevelop Angkasapuri to begin this year
By YVONNE LIM Updated: Tuesday March 20, 2012 MYT 5:52:38 PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Work to redevelop Angkasapuri complex, which houses Radio, Television Malaysia (RTM), to make way for RM860mil-Media City, will begin this year.

However, the landmark eight-storey administrative building and historic buildings such as Wisma Radio will be retained.

Information, Communications and Culture secretary-general Datuk Seri Kamaruddin Siaraf said Tuesday that the state-of-the-art Media City, a collaboration with the private sector's Media City Development Sdn Bhd, was expected to be completed in 2020.

The signing of the agreement on the project between the government and Media City Development took place Tuesday at the Information, Communications and Culture Ministry, witnessed by Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim and Deputy Minister Datuk Maglin Dennis D'Cruz.

Kamaruddin represented the ministry at the signing while Media City Development was represented by company director Tan Sri Syed Anwar Jamalullail.

“RTM will have a high-definition television studio, a music studio and an auditorium. The new facilities will also pave the way for digital television services in the near future."

He said that the project, on 27 hectares on top of Bukit Putra, where Angkasapuri now sits, would also see a 17-storey administration building.

The project, announced in the 2010 budget, took the Ministry one year of planning following Cabinet approval, he said.

DRB-Hicom to take over 23-year Angkasapuri facilities concession
Friday, 27 November 2015
http://www.thestar.com.my/Business/B...ion/?style=biz

KUALA LUMPUR: DRB-Hicom Bhd has proposed to acquire a 51% stake in Media City Ventures Sdn Bhd (MCVSB), whose unit holds a 23-year government concession to set up new facilities and infrastructures on Angkasapuri’s 15.72-acre premises.

It told Bursa Malaysia on Thursday that it had signed a conditional agreement to buy the stake from Enigma Permata Sdn Bhd for RM85.68mil.

MCVSB owns Media City Holdings Sdn Bhd, which in turn wholly owns Media City Development Sdn Bhd.

Media City Development holds the concession to undertake certain things pursuant to the terms and conditions under the concession agreement dated March 20, 2012 entered into with the Government (Communications and Multimedia Malaysia Ministry) and Syarikat Tanah Dan Harta Sdn Bhd.

Among others, it is to undertake the planning, financing, construction, installation, and completion of new facilities and infrastructures, including the broadcast equipment and system, on Radio Television Malaysia’s headquarters’ existing premises.

In return, Media City Development will be entitled to receive availability charges, asset management service charges and broadcast maintenance charges by way of monthly payment in arrears.

Within 30 days from the issuance of the certificate of acceptance for the facilities, infrastructure and broadcast equipment systems, the Government will transfer parts of three 99-year leasehold lands measuring 11.28 acres in Kuala Lumpur to Media City Development.

Under the concession agreement, the company is required to develop a portion of the land measuring 4.14 acres into a mixed development comprising a hotel and a commercial complex, with offices and food and beverage outlets within five years of the transfer of the land.

DRB-Hicom said the total construction, supply and installation costs under the concession agreements of RM860mil would be financed via a mixture of external borrowings and equity and/or shareholders’ advances.
