Qatar knows that McCormack is unlikely to be transport minister for long and that they'll have another shot shortly.

Certainly weighted toward Qatar airlines that article, doesn’t really mention the restrictions that Qatar place on their own airspace, open skies agreements work both ways and Qatar is one of the more restricted developed countries in the world. They want access into other countries but don’t reciprocate the same rights to others.
There is a reason they have limited access and it’s not because a former Qantas member is on staff. |

Enola I 100% agree with you BUT... The tourism and export potential is being ruined by an idiot deputy who won't talk about it. He is in Melbourne and he's making a decision for Brisbane and it's wrong. Yes queue the outrage but remember, the Melbourne trolls post various oh it's unfair we don't get this carrier for months now and how many have they gotten?? I don't doubt that long term unless they went bankrupt, doubtful, that they will fly here. But for decades, as the late David Jull uncovered in 1987 and I have that article, Qantas guards Brisbane and the rest of Queensland but gives Sydney and Melbourne everything. The population arguement does not work because many carriers started flying into Brisbane 30 years ago when the PAX were lower. But now the PAX are up and yet they fly to Canberra and Adelaide? Not acceptable sorry if it sounds like outrage but I'm not the only one in the world or in the Queensland tourism industry who thinks this way. It's disgusting and a pox on them. Yes Doha is awful but as an airline and probably only use Doha to go onto England or France, but...we won't stop until it lands here. If that offends other forum members well ![]()

It’s not about offending forumers... it’s about open skies agreements being reciprocal, Qatar has similar disagreements with Europe and the US, there’s also geo-political issues to consider with Emirates and Etihad being state airlines of the UAE who are currently in conflict with Qatar, UAE have allowed greater access to Australian carriers based on the same reciprocal agreements that Qatar are denying. It sets a dangerous precedence and would be offensive to larger trading partners in the region to allow greater freedom to Qatar when more was demanded of them.

I believe we may see the Royal Thai Air Force A340 make a visit at some point in mid November.
