Red tapism in state forces Symbiosis, MIT to head to MP

Symbiosis and MIT are set to establish private universities in Madhya Pradesh, after the Maharashtra government has been going slow on reforms in higher education and failing to introduce a separate Act -- Maharashtra Self Financed Universities Bill, 2011-- for establishment and regulation of private universities even after two years.

Fed up with the state government’s red tapism in sanctioning the proposal, Symbiosis has shifted the location of its first ‘Skill Development University’ from the home state to MP. The group received the go-ahead from Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan’s government with the allotment of 25 acres of land near Indore at 50 per cent concession, to set up the university near Pithampur industrial zone.

Green nod for GAIL’s power plant in MP

Read more at:
http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/...campaign=cppst

NEW DELHI: After giving green nods to some long pending defence projects, the government on Friday gave environment clearance to public sector undertaking GAILBSE 1.69 % for setting up a 380 mw gas-based power plant in Guna district of Madhya Pradesh.

The project will be located within GAIL's existing LPG manufacturing facility-cum-compressor station at Vijaypur, one km west of the Agra-Mumbai highway.

"Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) had cleared it after environment impact assessment of the project in its last meeting in May. The formal clearance has now been given, paving the way for GAIL to start construction," said an official of the environment ministry.

The ministry took three years to give its final clearance after approving the project's terms of reference (ToR) in June 2011.

The power plant, which is to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1,209 crore, will employ nearly 200 people during the construction phase. Around 100 people will be employed during the operational phase of the project.

The approval came as the ministry under the new government has decided to give clearances on priority to defence-related projects and those of state-owned companies. More green approvals for power/mining projects and key infrastructure projects are expected in the coming months

BJP Government releases state manifesto; promises Metro Rail in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur and Gwalior

Quote:
Saturday, 22 November 2014 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal |

Ahead of the forthcoming civic polls in the State, the ruling BJP on Friday promised to introduce India’s first ‘light metro’ service in Bhopal and Indore, and to construct five lakh houses for the economically weaker sections.

The party’s manifesto for the local body elections was released by the state BJP president Nandkumar Singh Chouhan here in the presence of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and others.

The Metro will be introduced in Jabalpur and Gwalior too, for which feasibility study was underway, the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister also said that in view of shortage of houses in big cities, construction of high-rises would be encouraged.

As many as 1,500 new buses would be purchased for expanding inter-city public transport in 16 main cities; multi-level parking will be constructed, the manifesto promises.

It also promises a number of green initiatives such as bicycle rental scheme and promoting construction of energy efficient and environment-friendly buildings.

BHOPAL:
BJP on Friday released its manifesto for urban civic elections, seven days before the first phase of polling. Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and state party president Nandkumar Singh Chouhan released the party's commitment paper, promising e-tax payments for citizens and low-floor public transport buses in 16 cities and towns.

BJP assured fulfillment of PM Narendra Modi's dream of smart cities with light metro rail and scientific disposal of waste through effluent treatment plants.

Five lakh homes would be constructed for urban poor, lease rent payment on properties will be abolished and municipal bodies with BJP governance will provide 135 litres of water per person, the manifesto stated.

State government will spend Rs 2,000 crore under the chief minister's urban drinking water scheme.

Multi-level parking facilities will also be constructed seeing the growth in vehicles in big cities.

"While plans to run metro rail in Bhopal and Indore have been worked out, feasibility of running light metro in Jabalpur and Gwalior are under scrutiny," CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan said.

"Every city and even medium and small towns will have a green zone and a green building.
Rahagiri will be a regular activity in all these green zones in every urban area," he said.

Each town will be asked to adopt a sport and be known for playing it. Bhopal having sent a number of hockey players to India's Olympic team, a BJP governed Municipal Corporation will adopt the sport and develop it with youngsters.

Flanked by Indore mayor Krishna Murari Moghe and urban administration minister Kailash Vijayavargiya, who were part of the manifesto committee, the chief minister said, "BJP aims to develop clean, beautiful and advanced urban Madhya Pradesh. Since population is rising in cities and towns, local bodies have to ascertain that basic facilities are available. We will rapidly proceed towards realising PM Modi's dream of clean and smart cities."

Chief minister Chouhan said his government would spend Rs 37,000 crore for development of urban areas in next five years. "Sewage system, water supply, roads, parks and flyovers have been built. We have spent money on every town and city in the state. And this manifesto will be our roadmap for next five years. Citizens will no longer have to go to municipal corporation offices to pay property or water taxes. A new system will be developed to ensure tax payment can be done online. Birth, death and marriage certificates will also be processed online," he said.

With BJP in power in urban civic bodies, construction of residential high-rises will be given preference. BJP's manifesto explains the urban population of the state has risen from 1.61 crore in 2001 to 2.01 crore in 2011. "With this kind of growth in population in cities, it is obvious we have to opt for residential high-rises and would risk shrinking of agricultural land," the chief minister explained.

Illegal colonies occupied for over three decades will be regularised and basic infrastructure facilities will be provided.
BJP says that if an illegal colony has been occupied and habituated for over three decades, it is time to stop discrimination and regularise it.
