Engg cluster at Nashik soon

Quote:
The commerce ministry has approved the proposal of Nashik Industrial Co-operative Estate (NICE) to set up an engineering cluster at Nashik under the Industrial Infrastructure Upgradation Scheme.

A special purpose vehicle — Nashik Engineering Cluster — has been formed with NICE president Vikram Sarda as chairman and commissioner of Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) Vilas Thakur as vice-chairman.

Informing about the project, Sarada said, “Around 1,650 engineering and electrical industries are scattered in and around Nashik. Considering the strong base of engineering and electrical industries here and with an aim to make local small-scale industries (SSIs) globally competitive, NICE took the initiative of forming the engineering cluster.”

The project, to cost Rs 67 crore, would come up on 4 acres with a built-up area of 100,000 sft in Ambad areas of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation. It is expected to be completed in one year. Of the Rs 67 crore, the Centre will provide Rs 50 crore, while NICE and NMC will contribute Rs 9.26 crore and Rs 8 crore, respectively.

The cluster would provide facilities including CAD/CAM/CAE centre, rapid prototyping, CNC machining centre, specialised heat treatment, testing facility, calibration centre and common facilities. The CAD/CAM/CAE training centre would start within two months in the NICE premises.

This is the company’s first solar energy facility, and the 100 per cent EOU is being set up under the technical and turnkey collaboration with Spire Corporation, Boston, US. It is to be inaugurated on December 4.

The solar power project involves installed capacity of 25 MW in the first phase. This will be gradually ramped up to 150 MW by June 2010.

He added that the company has signed MoUs and 5-year-long term agreements with its suppliers and buyers worldwide, and secured export orders to back up its expansion plans.

The Rs 2,000-crore PLG Group is involved in manufacturing and agro-based industries in Mumbai and Kolkata.

The inauguration of the Sinnar EOU will be followed by the laying of a foundation stone for yet another 100 per cent EOU at SEZ, Indore by PLG Photovoltaic Ltd., another group company, on December 8.

The company is investing Rs 400 crore to manufacture high efficiency solar cells and modules at this location and will use technology from German company Schmidt GmbH.

Nashik: Indiabulls Group, a diversified entity, will develop a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Sinnar near here in association with the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).

The SEZ, to be located in the industrial corridor of Nashik, Sinnar and Igatpuri, will come up on 2,500 acres of land, Kishore Gajabhiye of Indiabulls who is heading the project told reporters here last evening.

Indiabulls is a leading player in financial sector, real estate and energy services.

The multi-product enclave will have units related to auto components, medicine production, food, engineering, information and technology among others. It will also house an international trading centre, hotels, schools, entertainment park and hospital, he said.

He, however, did not give the estimated investment or time-frame of the project. This will be Indiabulls' third SEZ after Mumbai and Pune.

The Group's proposed 1,335 MW Thermal Power Project at
Sinnar was likely to see investments of Rs 25,000 crore and
create thousands of jobs, Gajabhiye said.

Of the total power generation, 950 mw will be given to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd, he said.

Lupin in talks to buy 300 acres from Indiabulls

In what could be the biggest real estate deal based on land size in the year, pharmaceuticals major Lupin Ltd is learnt to be in talks to acquire 300 acres of land near Nashik in a special economic zone (SEZ). According to people close to the development, the company is in final stages of discussions with Indiabulls to acquire the land in the latter’s Sinnar SEZ near Nashik. Lupin is planning to set up an export-based manufacturing facility in the area.
Though it is difficult to pin down the exact value of the land, going by the land being sold in the vicinity of the SEZ, the price of the patch that Lupin wants could be around Rs 300 crore.

An independent real estate consultant told Hindustan Times that it would be worth at least Rs 300 crore but a source said in a guarded note, “In any SEZ there is no outright purchase of land. The price depends on certain infrastructure offered and requirements of the company.

Indiabulls would have to provide certain infrastructure to Lupin and it is only after that the latter will pay the negotiated price. If the deal goes through, Lupin will make payments in more than two tranches.

An email sent to Lupin remained unanswered and repeated requests to respond to a questionnaire from HT did not elicit any response.

However, Indiabulls confirmed the development. “Many companies including Lupin have made preliminary inquiries for setting up their export-based facilities in the Sinnar SEZ. Discussions with a few of these companies are in progress but at this stage nothing has been firmed up and therefore there is nothing else to share by way of information,” said an Indiabulls spokesperson in an emailed response.

Lupin, which saw consolidated net sales of Rs 4,740 crore in 2009-10 has nine manufacturing facilities in India and one in Japan. Currently, Lupin is generating major revenue from advance markets. In 2009-10, 58% of the company’s revenue came from advanced markets, 34% from India and 8% from emerging markets.

Lupin, which exports drug to many countries, recently became the first Asian company to make it to the to top five companies in US generic market in terms of number of prescriptions.
