This is an article from several months back. It says, "Extreme heat is also a drag on electric vehicles. When outside temperatures heat up to 95 degrees Fahrenheit and air conditioning is used inside the vehicle, driving ranges can decrease by 17 percent, AAA reports."

https://www.theverge.com/2019/2/10/1...r-polar-vortex

Question:

How would EVs behave in weather that constantly reaches 120 degrees F (or 50 degrees C)? Like conditions in the summer in many Middle Eastern countries, and in India.

https://www.cmu.edu/me/ddl/publicati...EV-Weather.pdf

This is the first study I’ve seen that touches on EV performance in 120-degree-F weather, and the analysis could be improved. Although the 120-degree point is beyond the paper’s sample, their fitted curve (I’m suspicious of it, so it could be improved) suggests a >70% increase in the Nissan Leaf’s energy use compared to 75 degrees. The car makers publish their range and efficiency results for that ideal range.

This article, which cites an Idaho national lab study, also poses that extreme temperatures could affect the charging times of EVs: https://phys.org/news/2018-08-ev-col...e-drivers.html

Which would affect the power load profile.

Nissan launches electric pickup truck with 250-mile range and nutty price through JV in China

Quote:
The Dongfeng Rich 6 EV is relatively compact (5290/1850/1790 wth a 3050 wheelbase) wth a small bed (1510/1562/475) and it has curb weight of 1,983 kg (4,370 lbs) with a max load of 490 kg (1,080 lbs).

Its double cabin can seat 5 people.

As for the powertrain, it is equipped with a single 160 hp/420 Nm electric motor and a 68 kWh battery pack.

Dongfeng claims a range of 403 km (250 miles) on a single charge, but that’s using the NEDC standard, which is generally nowhere near a normal use case.

The top speed is 110 km/h (68 mph) and the company says that it is fast-charging capable. Without confirming the max charge rate, Dongfeng says that it takes 45 minutes to get to 80% state-of-charge.

The Dongfeng Rich 6 EV should hit the market as soon as next month. The price is unknown, but it is expected to be extremely cheap — maybe even 130,000 yuan ($18,900 USD) after subsidies.

I think the latest Volkswagen Group push into eletric vehicles is really a remarkable one. The ID3 seems to have everything needed to be the first really populer e-car: relatively low priced, good looks, cheap wall-mounted charger and great dealership infrastructure.

I'd love to get a Porsche Taycan, but I assume the ID3 will be my first e-vehicle.

Quantum, the first electric car made in Bolivia

Quote:
Quantum, the first electric car made in Bolivia
Appointment:
Industrias Quantum Motors SA is the manufacturer of the first generation of electric cars built in Bolivia, which have a guarantee of “height”, since the motorized of the brand are able to move through the topography and traffic of La Paz.

“The car was tested on all types of terrain in the country, we took it to test in Potosí, Cochabamba and La Paz, among other complex regions. We did the tests with a prototype, in a series of tests that lasted two years, ”said the Commercial Manager of Industrias Quantum SA, Ariel Revollo.

Models E2 and E3 were presented Thursday night in Cochabamba, where Quantum has installed its car production plant.

On the occasion, the executives of the brand showed the two versions of their motorized with three capacity seats, autonomy at a single load of about 70 kilometers and zero greenhouse gas emissions.

“Last night (Thursday) was the official national launch, the stores are preparing to be suitable for the independent launch (of each city). In Santa Cruz we will launch it on September 25, in Fexpocruz, ”said Revollo, who added that Quantum will open its store in La Paz in October.

The case of the Government headquarters is very particular in terms of the performance of a motorized vehicle, due to the steep slopes and the required performance of the vehicles.

“On a climb, the car will generate a little more effort, which will reduce its autonomy, however, that will not make it unable to climb. The car can always climb because it works with an electric motor that has torque, which is a gear speed that climbs climbs without difficulty, unlike combustion engines that require an explosion to move, ”Revollo explained.

For the Cochabamba fair, the E2 model is for sale at a promotional price of $ 4,700, while the E3 costs 5,200, an offer valid only for the first 50 units, because then they will cost $ 5,450 and $ 5,950, respectively.

After the Cochabamba and Santa Cruz fairs, Quantum plans to place some 120 units of its motorized vehicles on the market and produce up to 200 cars per month.

From the sale of a vehicle of the brand, the customer is guaranteed technical assistance and the provision of spare parts in the cities of the trunk axis.

The datasheet

Power The Quantum E2 reaches a maximum speed of 45 kilometers per hour. In the case of the E3 model, it reaches up to 55 km / h. In both cases, the battery offers a range of 70 kilometers.
Charging The battery of the brand's vehicles is recharged through a single-phase 220 volt plug, the conventional one installed in the houses. Each total charge cycle takes about six hours.
Capacity In terms of weight, the E2 has 350 kilos, while the E3 weighs 410 kilos. The drag capacity of the first reaches 200 and 250 kilos, respectively. Quantum will sign alliances with several businesses, to offer refills in different parts of the city.

If you have an electric vehicle and don't have on-site storage/generation, how do you secure electricity supply to charge your vehicle in the affected areas?
