Similar interstate water sharing dispute.

TG is ok with water being wasted to Sea from Krishna, but object and want to monitor water flow to the Pennar Link at the Pothyreddypadu regulator.

As a result AP just can divert more water only when there is waterflow above 72K from Srisailam to NSR and provided that NSR is already full.
Unless these conditions are met, TG is objecting to it.

Given that, due to the last 30 days of water diversion to Pennar, now Somasila has about 41 TMC water. and some water is opened to Kandaleru also.

True, there is a reason why paid media exist. Remember there used to be a number of negative articles on industrial growth in TN a couple years back saying jobs are moving to GJ/KA/AP etc.

That is still prevailing....most of the TOIlet articles often portray TN in poor light only....

The water inflow to Somasila is maintained at 60K cusecs for the past 3/4 days. However, the water diverted from Srisailam is static at around 25K.

Any idea, from where the rest of 35K cusecs are coming from? given that Pennar catchment did not yet have any great rainfall to warrant this inflow.

That means, Poondi and Cholavaram will get good inflow from Kosasthalaiyaru!

Any idea, how long from Krishnapuram dam to Poondi?

Yesterday was a massive day for rains across TN.. Looking at the graph from imd Chennai it almost rained 2cm for whole state largest for this SW monsoon season.

Salem, Dindigul, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri whole dt received 5cm rain.. Seeing pics from morning many lakes, kulam, kuttai are overflowing in Salem.

With on day rain Dindigul dt which was at 50 deficient got down to 27 deficient. Hope Sathanur dam gets good flow.

Remote Waterfalls in Kalvarayan Hills covering Salem, Tmalai and Vellore dt are activated after 5yrs. Now hopes on NE monsoon which can only fill thousands of lakes in North TN including Chennai.

Mettur reaches 120ft again. Inflow expected to be around 30k - 50k as the river Shimsha that joins cauvery after shivanasamudra is flowing above danger mark.

More release from mettur advised by CWC.

Krishna water for Chennai from Sept. 25, says Telugu Ganga SE

With the Somasila reservoir getting filled up fast, the State government has decided to release the Krishna water to Chennai from September 25.

“The Krishna water release from Kandaleru will start from coming Wednesday,” Telugu Ganga Project Superintending Engineer K. Harinarayana Reddy told The Hindu.

The rate of discharge will be maintained at 2,000 cusecs per day for about one month

The storage in Kandaleru reservoir went up to 10.48 tmcft following steady discharge from Somasila reservoir.

With addition of about 1 tmcft each day, the storage is expected to go up to over 40 tmcft in about a month.

Meanwhile, the storage in Somasila went up to 65.99 tmcft as the inflow into the reservoir across the Pennar increased to 92,343 cusecs on Sunday.

The Kundu river, a tributary of Penna river, carried heavy floods in the wake of rains in the catchment areas. As a result, the storage at Somasila reservoir went up to 65.99 tmcft from 62.12 tmcft on Sunday. The reservoir, which had a flood cushion of 12.01 tmcft, is expected to see an addition of more than 7 tmcft of water per day during the next week.

The discharge from Somasila reservoir to Kandaleru reservoir, part of the Telugu Ganga Project designed to provide drinking water to Chennai, was stepped up to 11,000 cusecs on Sunday. Another 9,000 cusecs of water was released to other irrigation projects, including Kanigiri reservoir in Nellore district, Nellore Circle Irrigation Superintending Engineer B.S.V. Prasada Rao told The Hindu.

The present heavy floods in the Kundu river are likely to continue in the next 48 hours as weathermen predicted more rains in the Rayalaseema districts as also Nellore.

Meanwhile, the inflow into Srisaialam reservoir fell to 75,018 cusecs with floods receding in the catchment areas in the upper riparian States of Karnataka and Maharashtra, according to a report compiled by the Water Resources Department said.

Mettur dam was at full FRL for 12 days and yesterday dropped by 0.05 feet and again full. Center water board warned TN gvt that hogenakal might receive 50000 cusecs by to night due to yesterday night rains at Mandya..

Omalur I doubt this year. Every year one rain use to flood Sarbhanga river near Omalur. This time it never happened.

BTW Kelavarapalli dam overflowing due to Bengaluru rains.. Hope Krishnagiri dam also fills. With so many rains still Sathanur at 20% of its capacity only.

There is one difference this year though...it has rained fairly well in rayalaseema region all along the sai ganga canal....so the entire region is not bone dry....

water seepage could be minimal and if farmers do not pump more water, chances of good proportion of water reaching zero point is better this time....

let us hope for the best....

GOod news all around from MH, TG, AP, KA, and last but not the least in TN also.

As expected, Mettur inflow is getting better and will hold up for a couple of days.

With Somasila filled up the to brim (will happen by Thursday), water to Kandaleru will be upped. And water from Kandaleru to Chennai also has chances of being increased (any hint, what is the capacity of this canal now?), but on the other side, Chennai's lakes are also getting good inflow now and whatever from Kandaleru will be just redundant if the rains in Chennai are good enough for another week.

And the best part is, major dams are at FRL till the end of monsoon. This is good for next summer.

If I am not wrong, pretty much all part of India got a very good rains this year.

The canals carrying capacity might be just 2000 cusecs, you can't do anything.
