proposed-textile-park-to-open-job-avenues-for-5000-weavers

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/...w/24861196.cms

NAGPUR: Maharashtra government is planning to set up an integrated textile park, a common facility centre for handlooms and powerlooms, which would open employment avenues for nearly 5,000 weavers here.

The government has initiated necessary formalities to table a formal proposal before a ministerial group in the state for launching the first phase, where 2,500 spindle units, 1,000 powerlooms, 300 handlooms and 50 units of readymade garments would be set up here, Nagpur MP Vilas Muttemwar told .

State textile minister Arif Nasim Khan has issued directives to the department to prepare for a ministerial group meeting in this regard within a fortnight.

"The Centre is willing to extend all possible help to the weavers who are in distress, to earn livelihood. Union Textile Ministry has drawn up an ambitious plan and accordingly the Centre has agreed to share 50 per cent financial burden of Rs 15,000 for each powerloom unit," Muttemwar said.

The state government was requested to provide Rs 10,000 for upgradation of each powerloom unit and efforts are on to get an approval for bank loan, he said.

Necessary proposal for powerloom weavers from Nagpur and Malegaon worth Rs 157 crores will also come up before the ministerial group, said Muttemwar, who took up the issue with the textile minister in Mumbai last week.

He said the Integrated Textile Park will come up at sprawling 20 acres land of defunct Nagpur Sahakari Soot Girni (co-op spinning mills) on Nagpur-Umrer road which the state government has acquired.

Besides this, the Union Textile Ministry has allocated Rs 10 crores for a Powerloom Service Centre in Nagpur. Muttemwar has suggested the state textile department to give the premises of Maharashtra Handloom Corporation here on a nominal lease for the purpose.

textile-policy-attracted-2kcr-investment

http://www.asianage.com/mumbai/texti...investment-683

After a year of launching the textile policy of the state, it has successfully attracted an investment of `2,392 crore from 394 projects, which would be generating employment for 22,750 persons, textile minister Naseem Khan said.
The policy was formed to lay special emphasis on setting up processing units in the cotton-producing sectors of the backward Vidarbha and Marathwada regions and parts of North Maharashtra. An expansion of the textile industry and growth of employment was also expected by the government during the launch last year. “Altogether 350 projects of `3,500 crore with employment capacity of 25,000 are under process. It will soon be functional,” Mr Khan said confidently. There are also 14 textile parks with `1,600 crore and 40,000 employment generation, he added.
The cotton-rich Vidarbha region has started with seven projects of `1,800 crore. The region, which is often perceived negatively for farmers’ suicides, would generate employment of 15,000. “The response to the new policy is really good and we are confident that one lakh jobs will be generated when all projects are be functional,” the minister said.
The policy offers 10 per cent subsidy to units coming up in the Vidharbha region, besides Marathwada and North Maharashtra region. Modernisation or expansion of existing textile units will be undertaken by the government, as declared in the policy.
