Historic district is not that beatiful as the modern part. Maybe as a result of the congress centers popping all around the city it may become a congress center, but still not as powerful as Istanbul to become a rival.
Well, for a city to become a popular tourist destination it's not a necessity to possess a lot of historical sites, museums etc.. Look at Las Vegas, Dubai and many other "modern" cities. We have to use our imagination.

I hope they start thinking like us. The main problem is many people see Ankara just as a nice and tidy "govermental city", so they don't consider turning it into finance or tourism center.

Hopefully it seems like city might have a future in congress tourism, there are few projects u/c and proposed, but of course we have to wait for a while to see if it succeeds.

OK, here is the western suburbs of Ankara.. 300,000 people are living in Çayyolu Area located in western suburbs.

Konutkent District

Mesa Koru Sitesi (District)

That building seen at the back is Mesa Plaza. It is small (75m) but nice imo.

Some villas from Ümitköy (Largest District of the area)

Some street level..

Apartments From Ümitköy

Some restaurants from one of the main streets of Ümitköy

So I guess it is time to have a look to the old historical district of Ankara..

The Old City..

The Citadel with the old houses of Ankara..

The Citadel from back.. Unfortunately other side of citadel still holds bad looking non-historical old houses, but there are projects of clearing them.

Some historical buildings in Ulus (Historical District) built at the first years of republic.

The First Parliament of Republic of Turkey (It was a primary school actually, then converted into parliament in the independence war)

The Second Parliament

Arts Museum

Etnography Museum

I love this face of Ankara more
