Israel to invest Rs 40,000 crore in MP

BHOPAL: Israel has evinced interest to make a whopping investment of nearly Rs 40,000 crore in sectors like agriculture, horticulture, aquaculture and dairy in Madhya Pradesh.

"A team of Indo-Israel Chamber of Commerce led by Embassy of Israel Economic Counsellor Mouneer Agbariya recently met state government officials and showed interest to invest nearly Rs 40,000 crore in Madhya Pradesh," PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry State Director Rajendra Kothari told PTI on Tuesday.

Under agriculture investments, the Israelis want to open an agriculture university in Madhya Pradesh to train farmers, students and officers, improve productivity and bring it to the international level in next 10 years, Kothari said.

Israel is keen to invest in agriculture, horticulture, aquaculture and dairy sectors in Madhya Pradesh, he said. He said the team held meetings with Principal Secretary, Agriculture and Cooperative Department, PS Horticulture and Food Processing and Director Horticulture adding that the second-round of talks regarding investments will take place in March.

Kothari said that the Israel government has cleared the overseas investments of its private concerns. He said that Israel was doing farming and dairy business with minimum resources and maximum technology and its productivity was at international level.

Kothari said that though Israel records a scant rainfall of 10 inches, its agriculture and farm production was very high.

He said that an Israeli cow gives 40 litres milk per day whereas the bovine milk production capacity in Madhya Pradesh was just two litres a day.

Hindalco raises Rs 7,875 cr for aluminum smelter plant

Quote:

MUMBAI: Hindalco Industries , the flagship of the Aditya Birla Group , has raised 7,875 crore in debt for a greenfield aluminum smelter plant at Mahan, making it one of India's largest debt raising exercise and putting on track the group's proposed $5 billion projects to consolidate the Birlas position as one of the leading producers of aluminum.

Hindalco raised the loan from a syndicate of 31 banks on a floating rate basis for a tenor of 12.75 years. "The average cost of the loan is very attractive," Hindalco chief financial officer Sunirmal Talukdar told ET, adding that the work done in raising funds for the Mahan project would help in raising debt for Aditya Aluminum, the other greenfield project. The rate is pegged at 10.25% and is linked to the State Bank of India's base rate.

The Mahan smelter project will have an annual capacity of 3,59,000 tonnes and will also include a 900 megawatt power plant. Aditya Aluminum is also a 3,59,000 tonne smelter at Lapanga in Orissa. The project includes a 4.2-million-tonne bauxite mine and a 1.5 million tonne alumina refinery at Kansariguda.

The group had earlier announced it would spend $5 billion on three greenfield projects including the Utkal Alumina refinery, the Mahan Aluminum smelter and the Aditya Aluminum project. The equity component for the three projects had been tied up, while the group will raise debt for Aditya Aluminum next.

MP to accord conditional welcome to Chinese firms

To create four new industrial areas in view of investors’ interest in the state.
Madhya Pradesh has got a commitment of investment from a third company based in China, prompting the state to create four industrial areas and accord a red-carpet welcome to the East Asian country’s firms that would offer 100 per cent jobs to locals. The government, though, has refused to offer these entities facilities on par with what they get in their homeland, according to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday.
The CM was talking to reporters after his ten-day visit to China, where he participated in the World Economic Forum as an Indian representative.

China’s Jiang Sing Corrugated Machinery Limited has decided to invest Rs 50 crore in Pithampur near Indore. A delegation of the firm will soon visit the site. The state had, a few years ago, found investment coming from two other firms — Xiang Electricals in Mandideep (near Bhopal) and Liugong.
Chouhan on Thursday said the government would develop four new industrial areas in view of Chinese investors’ interest in Madhya Pradesh. “I have had discussions with Jiang Sing officials. They will visit us in a day or two to sign a deal with us. I welcome all firms that will offer cent per cent jobs to local people”
The government would soon create four more industrial areas in Rajgarh, Obedullaganj, some location at Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor and on Bhopal-Indore state industrial corridor to “attract investment from China”, he added.
A government official, who was part of the delegation, said the CM has already committed land to the company. “They will also be offered similar benefits in accordance with the industry policy,” he told Business Standard. Jiang will manufacture machines for corrugated box manufacturing unit. Xiang manufactures silicon electrodes, while Liugong manufactures earthmoving equipment.
Chouhan said it was also possible that a few more Dalian-based IT companies would investment in Madhya Pradesh. “We will be in discussion with them. It is, though, next to impossible for us to offer free land, power and cheap labour which they get in China.”
