Green signal for Foot over bridges on BRTS

INDORE: Foot over bridges (FOBs) will be constructed near bus stops at BRTS corridor. The decision was taken by the empowered committee of Madhya Pradesh assembly on Tuesday after the inspection of the 11.5 km long corridor.

President of the committee Omprakash Saklecha said FOBs are essential for easy flow of traffic and safety of pedestrians. He said the committee has given its consent to the preparation of a detailed project report. Regarding funding, he said it would be constructed either under public private partnership (PPP), built operate and transfer (BOT) model or with the financial assistance from different departments.

BRTS corridor has 21 bus stops and FOB will be constructed at almost every bus stop. Initially, only two FOB will be constructed --- one at C21 Mall and another at Bhawarkua. For the two FOBs, the state government might use infrastructure fund. City residents and different organizations have been demanding construction of FOB as objections were raised about safety of pedestrians crossing the road. Initially, local administration had outrightly rejected the idea of FOB mainly due to high cost involved.

Saklecha also stressed on giving equal importance to bus lane and mix vehicle lane. He also suggested to have a separate lane for two-wheelers.

The committee members also took a ride on ibus to inspect the corridor. They travelled from Rajiv Gandhi Crossing to Niranjanpur Crossing and then returned to city bus office.

Meanwhile, reviewing the other development works in the city, the committee member suggested that the number of vehicles is increasing in the city and road should be developed accordingly. He added that Loha Mandi other mandis should be shifted out of the city.

The first industrial area was developed here named as Richhai, 3 most oldest missionary schools in MP were developed here first i.e. Christ Church 1866, St. Aloysius 1869, St. Joshep 1869. The oldest municipality is Jabalpur, one of the oldest railway station is Jabalpur, robertson science college estd in 1839 oldest college in MP, Jabalpur Engg. Gun Carriage Factory was estd in 1904 by britishers. and they built Vehicle factory Jabalpur which is still produced 75% of vehicles for army, Ordanance Factory Khamaria has been producing mass ammunitions for army for more than 65 years, and Gray Iron foundary is also there for the help of these 3 factories. And also 7 depots of army are also there. Also many batallions of army are there. More than 40% of area of Jabalpur is under the army surveiliance.

Tripuri Session of Indian National Congress was held in Jabalpur in 1939, Jabalpur was one of the planned town constructed by Britishers. Once upon a time Indore couldn't even dream to be like Jabalpur but today Jabalpur is no way near to Indore. Thanks to out Partial Politics of Madhya Pradesh

Great stuff.
The people involved deserve countrywide recognition.
Their ideas of best practice need to be replicated.
Proves it can be done.
The filthy Indian cities are the direct result of crap municipal authorities.
