Mantri Realty to set up SEZ at Nagpur

Well Mantri has already purchased land at Nagpur. What is significant is that they are ready to reduce the price to 16Rs/Sq feet and 1600Rs for long lease. I just hope the reality bubble in Nagpur to burst so that Nagpur becomes more cost attractive vis a vis other cities. That will help Nagpur grow fast and attract major chunk of IT investment...

Setback for Mihan as night airmail service discontinued

Setback for Mihan as night airmail service discontinued

In yet another setback for the Mihan cargo hub project, India Post has discontinued its postal cargo ‘night airmail’ service from Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport from March 31.

Though senior Air India officials attributed ‘operational’ reasons for discontinuation of India Post postal cargo services, India Post officials confirmed that Air India’s problems with pilots had not only affected the freighter operations of India Post from Nagpur but domestic operations from other airports too.

The development is a jolt to Mihan after Duke Aviation shelved its plans to set up an MRO in the SEZ. A senior airport official said that India Post used to operate a hub at Nagpur for exchange of mail and faster transmission of Speed Post, mail and parcels every night. The services were affected since the last few days because Air India is facing a financial as well as pilots crisis, he said. So we have decided to discontinue the operations for a few months, he added.

The official said, “India Post had acquired freighter aircraft from Air India to deliver mails. These aircraft bearing the India Post logo, used to converge at Nagpur from Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata-Guwahati routes every night. They used to fly back to their respective origins after exchanging the postal cargo.” India Post’s postal cargo service started in July 2009 was based on the 1970s ‘night air mail service’.

Those days, planes like the Dakota carrying postal mail and parcels from all four compass points of the country converged here. “From Nagpur, the mail was distributed to nearby centres by rail and road, cutting down on delivery time. The system was so good that we used to get letters from any part of the country in a day.” say old-timers.

Mihan-SEZ gets another housing scheme

Mihan-SEZ gets another housing scheme

NAGPUR: Even as the much hyped, Mihan Special Economic Zone (SEZ) still awaits investors from the industry, yet another realty player has been allotted land in the non-processing area of the SEZ for building a residential project.

The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), which is developing the SEZ, has leased out 8 acres of land to one Mumbai-based Moraz Group. The allotment was made through open bidding. The SEZ is divided into processing and non-processing areas. The latter is earmarked for developing complimentary facilities like residential areas, malls, health care facilities, while processing area is for the industries.

Allotments are made through bidding in the non-processing area and it is on case to case basis, with the rates being fixed by the MADC from time to time in the other.

Moraz group is expected to come up with a residential colony in this eight acre land. MADC's chief engineer S V Chahande, who confirmed that the allotment was made a few days ago, said further details were not available. None of the senior officials including the vice-chairman-cum-managing director RC Sinha could be contacted.

With this there will be three housing players in non-processing area, which include Mahindra Lifespace, First City, and now Moraz. The first two have been allotted 25 and 35 acres of land respectively. An international school is also coming up in this area. Mahindra Lifespace is yet to begin the construction and work is under way in First City.

However, there are concerns that apart from builders of residential properties other facilities should also come up in the nonprocessing area. "The MADC should also attract players for setting up commercial malls, hospitals and other facilities. A housing plan can easily find takers but other facilities are also needed," a source added.

There are other views on this too. Deepak Heda, a chartered accountant and a realty observer, said a new player will boost the general sentiment in the city's realty business and also bring some competition.

MADC is also working to attract industrial investors. A joint campaign will be launched by MADC and Vidarbha Economic Development Council (VED) to attract pharmaceutical industries in the SEZ, said Vilas Kale, chairman of VED, a voluntary organization backing Mohan and the SEZ.

This is the country's first multiproduct SEZ, however the processing zone has not attracted enough investors so far.

MIHAN-SEZ ready, waiting for big players

MIHAN-SEZ ready, waiting for big players

The world class, state-of-art infrastructure at Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) and Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is awaiting for IT and other sector companies for investments. MIHAN-SEZ is the biggest economical development project in Vidarbha region and in central India in terms of investment. The construction of internal roads, laying of sewage lines and water pipe lines, laying of optical fibre network for telecom sector, 24 kms compound wall, sub-station for energy distribution and bus stops are ready for investors. Around 80 percent infrastructural work has been completed. The MADC has spent around Rs 1,000 crore for creating this awesome infrastructure. The MADC has acquired 3,313 hectares of land for construction of Cargo Hub and SEZ. The total acquisition for MIHAN and SEZ would be 4354 hectares of land that includes 183 hectares of Government’s land.

A SEZ of 2086 hectares, largest multi-product SEZ in India, has been built along side the airport. Out of 2086 hectares, 1472 hectares would be used by various processing units to be set-up and remaining 614 hectares for service sector unit. Like all SEZs it is having financial incentives and soft taxation policy to attract investment. Initial set-up material for these units and later raw material will be duty-free. Caliber Point is the independent BPO arm of Hexaware Technologies, a leading global IT & BPO services company. Caliber Point provides end-to-end Business Process Outsourcing services to large global players and Fortune 1000 companies. Caliber Point has started its working and around 400 persons have been employed in the organisation. The youths of Vidarbha especially from Nagpur city have got jobs in the organisation. This is the only company which has started its functioning in SEZ area. The modern architectural building of Caliber Point was constructed in record 8 months. Construction of building of Tata Aeronautics Limited (TAL) has been completed and installation of machineries is going on. Sources informed, TAL will start its trial production of Boeing floor beam within two months. Coland Systems, an IT Company is developing IT Park on 100 acres of land in SEZ area. The company will be having one building of 4.5 lakh sq ft area and it will construct 8 buildings. The construction of a building in first phase is going on. The thermal power plant of Abhijeet Group at Khairi (k) is likely to be kicked off in September 2010. The modernised sub-stations for power supply are ready in the SEZ area. SEZ area is getting potable water from Wadgaon dam constructed on Vena river. MADC has laid 34 kms of pipe lines from dam to SEZ area. Company has constructed Sewage Treatment Plant and used water will be recycled for greenery and non-drinking purposes. Water demand for project would be met using dual supply by constructing two small lakes within MIHAN premises which would store water brought from Wadgaon reservoir. The two small lakes have been deepened, cleaned and beautified to store and supply fresh water to MIHAN. Storm drainage work consists of 10 km long channel and 9 cross-drainage work is also being laid in area for providing infrastructure. S V Chahande, Chief Engineer of Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) informed ‘The Hitavada’ that interchanging flyover on Wardha Road has partially been completed while one of its two arms on Wardha Road is near completion while Nagpur Road will take another six months to complete. The three lane, four lane and six lane roads are 80 % completed. Bus stops and majestic SEZ entrance gate is completed. Currently, the MIHAN premises did not have an electric supply and they are fully dependent on generators. MADC has applied for power supply to MSEDCL. The D Y Patil International School was opened last year in non-processing zone of SEZ. The DLF and SICAL Logistics have stopped their construction work in SEZ area. Many IT and other sector companies had booked land in the SEZ area but due to recession, they have not started the construction work.

AI, MADC sign agreement for transfer of land

Moving forward on its proposed maintenance, repair and overhaul facility in Nagpur, Air India has signed a land lease agreement with Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) for transfer of land to the national carrier.

The agreement, signed Tuesday, will facilitate transfer of 50 acres of land to Air India for the project.
Air India has formed a joint venture with US aircraft manufacturer Boeing to set up the proposed project at the upcoming Special Economic Zone near Nagpur at an investment of Rs 500 crore over the next three years.
"This (MRO) project is an important move in realising the potential of MRO business in India and meeting future requirements," Air India Board member K M Unni said.
The Boeing Company on its part would facilitate in constructing and equipping the facility.
The state-of-the-art technology facility would be used for major maintenance of the Boeing 777 and 787 fleet of the National Aviation Company of India Limited (NACIL), the holding company of Air India.
The Air India-Boeing joint venture project also plans to render maintenance, repair and overhaul services to third parties.

I just hope Boing start the construction ASAP. Atleast this will ensure potential investors..MIHAN progress has been slow since recession. And i just hope MIHAN's fate should not like many other failed projects in Vidarbha....

Oh yes. my mistake. It is actually SP Infocity which is being built by L&T. I don't think the work is on hold, because I saw few men working on site.. though it is very slow.

Is MIHAN dead????

This is really a question which needs to be asked now. With no interest shown by IT companies which are the primary target for SEZ, MIHAN is slowing moving towards that. Real estate projects won't help much. Since IT and other sectors which drive real estate and not the other way round... and with no 'real' leaders in Vidarbha, i afraid MIHAN will meet the same fate as other projects in Vidarbha.....

Mihan is almost dead,,,,as there are no real leaders in Vidarbha....Mihan is going slowly on death bed as other projects went.....RC Sinha's chairmanship has been discontinued from Mihan and some guy from CIDCO is taking over MIHAN who has no interest in Vidarbha..
