Could not agree more. One of the wonderful things about the Canary Wharf Underground Station is this very aspect - the almost majestic sweep of the escalator bank from the concourse to ground level. Perhaps engineering is an issue with the "box" containing the Crossrail station needing a number of rising levels as some form of cross support? The alternative being that the "box" would need unreasonably thick sides - also perhaps the various levels help with passenger traffic managment as well?

A map showing the areas around Finsbury Circus affected by Crossrail works. The purple areas indicate buildings that will require demolition and future redevelopment;

Will they be ripping up Finsbury square to use a goods yard? I do hope they'll at least make an attempt to retain a few of the mature trees around there if they are.

I'm guessing they can't build something up against the facade of the current LU station building as I'd assume its listed, so have had to plump for this 'floating' structure.

I think it's on Fulbourne Street in which case there's nothing to worry about as there's nothing of architectural value there.

Whitechapel station looks bland. They should have included a bit of the local history in the design.

The Whitechapel pic looks quite good. It will be fine, until it gets covered in pigeon poop.
