The theatre is not even close to completion. The Labor Govt only proposed a name for it.

Yeah, I get your point. It's the principle. Big deal.

If the Government think another name is more suitable then they can go ahead. The pathetic whining in this forum is tiring. It's not as if they're tearing the name off the building or the name is in widespread usage already.

Perth Heath Ledger Airport would be appropriate.

...given that he grew up here but "spread his wings" and left perth, which the airport signifies. I think Houstan's Airport is named after George Bush, so Airports typically get these famous local person names.

i have to agree the theatre naming was wide of the mark.

Does anyone know if Labor offered to name the theatre after Heath Ledger of its own accord or did Kim Ledger push for it?

So the people of Western Australia must end up with the "Heath Ledger Theatre" for the next 100 years because we don't want to upset his parents? What type of argument is that?

The users on this forum just want to make out as if Colin Barnett is some big mean prick.

How is it wide of the mark? Like, at all? Because he didn't act on the stage? Graham Farmer didn't let hundreds of thousands of cars roll over him and he wasn't constructed out of ashphalt. If anything, as far as naming shit goes, this is pretty close.

its just different. roads and airports have different naming rules, its hard to explain but its just the way these things are.

you have to be spot on, or name it after someone completely out of the field, theres no grey area.

Im pretty sure, the Premier offered it as a token to recognise H.Ledger, or something along those lines.... No one pushed for it, lol; i think the article was posted somewhere in one of these threads....

That's the most ridiculous, arbitrary nonsense I've ever heard. You're suggesting they should reverse the naming because it's not done according to your nebulous, non-existant rules, and ignoring examples that contradict them.

Its like a government building a statue in your honour then ripping it down the next day because the new government doesn't think its appropriate.

Are we going to have name changes of everything every time the government changes.

It was a Labor initiative and Barney just wants to stamp some Liberal on it.

Nameing it Heath Ledger Theatre will envoke intrest in the place from tourists. They will say "oo look Heath Ledger i saw him in that move blah blah" They will go down and see the he was from Perth, giving Perth a sence of world prespective.

He was an actor, which is a preformer. If it was a bloody hospital they wanted to name it after him then i would say hang on thats not right.

So were going to get stuck with a crappy dull name, and the theatre is going to become just an average play house in a average town. Come on Perth lets do something the the world can apprechiate. Yes his name is known worldwide and yes he was from Perth.
Everyone just needs to stop thinking of their own industry and start thinking of Perth as a whole and how we can make the most of what we have.

I feel this was a small step in the right direction, but were just going to take 2 steps backwards.
